MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (Special for Turf Diario).- In thoroughbred breeding, it's all about moving forward, continuing to invest, and aiming for more. Just a few weeks ago, news emerged about the passing of The Leopard, the head stallion at Haras Santa María de Juncal. Now, the focus shifts to a new commitment from the stud farm, as they quickly found a promising replacement for the Storm Cat son in Holy Boss, who hails from Argentina.

At 13 years old and the son of the dual G1 winner Street Boss (Street Cry), the chestnut stallion had a solid racing career in the United States before moving on to Haras La Leyenda, where he produced several high-performing runners, even in Uruguay, further raising expectations for his arrival on this side of the river.

With 22 starts under his belt and trained by Steven Asmussen, Holy Boss earned 6 victories and accumulated US$ 771,527 in prize money, notably capturing the Amsterdam Stakes (G2) at Saratoga in 2015.

Other key victories came in the Bachelor Stakes (L) at Oaklawn Park, the Chick Lang Stakes (L) at Pimlico, and the Duncan F. Kenner Stakes (L). He also finished second in the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Stakes (G1) and the Bet On Sunshine Stakes (L), and third in the King’s Bishop Stakes (G1), True North Stakes (G2), Commonwealth Stakes(G3), and Count Fleet Sprint Handicap (G3).

Out of Holy Grace (Holy Bull), Holy Boss is a half-brother to Canadian champion Holy Elena (Ghostzapper), and belongs to the same maternal family as Society (G1, by Gun Runner).

At stud, Holy Boss produced 54 winners in Argentina, including classic winners Fiolo BossMaranelo, and Preston Boss, along with other strong runners such as Wunder BossSol y Boss, and Candy Boss.

In Uruguay, Holy Boss has already made a significant mark with the sprinter Capo Boss, who won the Clásico Perú (L) this past weekend, finishing ahead of Metido a Bacana (Put It Back), who had recently claimed the Gran Premio Maroñas (G3) on January 6th.

The new stallion at Haras Santa María de Juncal is creating a buzz, crossing the river with the responsibility of filling the big shoes of The Leopard, a stallion who had a remarkable track record in producing quality horses during his time at stud.
