SHELBYVILLE, Indiana (Special for Turf Diario).- It took time—much longer than expected—but on Monday, Argentine trainer Ignacio Correas (h.) reached a milestone he had long sought: his 300th victory in the United States.

The twist of fate was that the achievement came aboard Dom Traces (Medaglia D’Oro), a son of the champion Dona Bruja (Storm Embrujado), one of the mares that brought him the greatest satisfaction during his U.S. career and that holds a special place in his heart.

The 3-year-old colt captured the sixth race at Horseshoe Indianapolis, a $32,000 maiden special weight contested over 1600 meters on turf. Bred by Iván Gasparotto—for whom the superstar mare also raced—and carrying his own Dom Felipe LLC colors in partnership with I.C. Racing LLC, Dom Traces won by 1¾ lengths under Irish jockey Declan Cannon, stopping the clock at 1:35.29 in his eighth career start.

Correas, who plans to retire after the Breeders’ Cup and return to Argentina, has a 13% winning rate, with 300 wins from 2,286 starters and 41% of his runners finishing in the top three, amassing total earnings of $20,606,788.

Throughout his career, he has excelled at the highest levels, including victories in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) and two editions of the Juddmonte Spinster Stakes (G1) with Blue Prize (Pure Prize); the New York Stakes (G1) with Didia (Orpen); the Elkhorn Stakes (G2) with Utah Beach (English Channel); the Matron Stakes (G2) with Millionsreasonswhy (Grand Slam); the Wise Dan Stakes (G2) with Kasaqui (Lasting Approval); the Endeavour Stakes (G3) with Dona Bruja herself; the American Derby (G3) with Real Story (Fast Bullet); the Vosburgh Stakes (G3) with Mufasa (Practical Joke); and the Commonwealth Turf Stakes (G3) with Humble and Hungry (Limehouse).

It took time, but the milestone of 300 wins in the United States has finally arrived, a fitting crown to an extraordinary career.
