Igual No Soy Shocked the Majority and Won the Balsa Wire-to-Wire

Rebounding from an eighth-place finish in the Copa Diamante, the mare carrying the colors of Stud Bucéfalo completely redeemed herself with an impressive showing over the turf mile
An unexpected result came in the Clásico Eudoro J. Balsa (G3-1600 m, turf), the contest that wrapped up Saturday's magnificent graded triple header at San Isidro, all courtesy of Igual No Soy. The daughter of John F. Kennedy, coming off an eighth-place finish in the Gran Premio Copa Diamante (G2), added a touch of class to her resume.
Facing a field that featured several prominent names in the division, it was the bay mare representing Stud Bucéfalo who ultimate asserted herself with conviction, leaving handicappers empty-handed after backing Samba do Brazil(Springdom). The latter—runner-up in both the aforementioned Copa Diamante and the Gran Premio Estrellas Distaff (G1)—seemed to have a clear path, yet could manage no better than fifth.
Entrusted to the reins of Juan Pablo Paoloni, Igual No Soy broke straight to the front and dictated the fractions with complete freedom. She posted 25s57/100 for the opening 400 meters and 49s10/100 for the half-mile, entering the home straight with plenty left in the tank.
In the final stretch, as several rivals attempted to launch their bids, the winner accelerated, opened up daylight, and locked up the race early on. She cruised through the closing stages to hit the wire 2 1/2 lengths clear of Stormy Summer(Nicholas), another well-regarded runner who closed from off the pace. An identical margin back, Orphila (Daniel Boone) completed the trifecta, stopping the clock in 1m35s58/100.
Bred by Haras Abolengo and conditioned by the father-son training tandem of Pablo P. and Pablo E. Sahagián, Igual No Soy had previously flashed quality with a second-place finish in the Clásico Miguel Angel y Tomás Juárez Celman (G2) at Palermo, following a steady campaign in allowance ranks.
Now firmly established on the turf mile and earning a well-deserved place among the division's top contenders, the mare faces an intriguing choice in the near future: whether to remain in her current division or stretch out in distance toward December's Gran Premio Copa de Plata (G1) over 2000 challenging meters.
