Another Wednesday of low-level action is on tap at the Jockey Club Argentino’s racecourse, featuring a field of just five participants in the main event

Hipodromo de San Isidro will once again host a Wednesday within the realm of the "alternativa" category, part of a seemingly endless festival of low-level racing on the main tracks. Owning a decent horse has become a punishment in Argentina, as it is nearly impossible to find places to compete and, furthermore, purses remain mere pocket change in a context where costs for owners continue to rise.
Aboard the life raft, attempting to surf a gale-force wind worthy of a third-tier track, the Clasico Vit Reina appears on the horizon. This 1,200-meter handicap on the dirt training track is for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up, offering a winner's share of just over 5 million pesos when the time comes to collect (whenever that may be...).
As is now constant, only five runners have been confirmed, and finding a solid candidate among them is a challenge. For instance, none of them are coming off a victory, and inconsistency is a trait they all share, at least in the current stages of their respective campaigns.
Carrying 54 1/2 kilos, this could be the opportunity for Look Happy (Hi Happy) to find the winner's circle again, even if her most recent outing—a fifth-place finish behind La Tasmania (Mask) in the Clasico Francia (L)—was far from inspiring. At this level, and under the same conditions she faces now, she captured the Handicap Resuello in October, in addition to several on-the-board finishes, including a third in the 2025 edition of the Vit Reina.
The 3-year-old Starry Bomb (Hit It a Bomb, 55 1/2) leaves the La Plata circuit to return to the scene of her first victory. Winner of the Clasico Wilfredo Latham (L), her form faded somewhat after that triumph, but now, taking advantage of her youth, she could very well strike.
Verenna (Cosmic Trigger, 57 1/2) will shoulder the top weight in her quest to regain the form that, one year ago, allowed her to take the Clasico Omnium (L) and spark dreams of bigger things. She finished fifth in her title defense attempt a month and a half ago, but the opposition here is considerably weaker.
Soy Atorranta (Angiolo, 54 1/2) offered no run in the Clasico La Troienne (L), but is looking for redemption today.
