The mare scored over 1400 meters in the Lux Lucis, while the horse prevailed in the Haras El Turf over 1700 meters

LA PLATA—The favorites delivered in style in the two non-conditioned events headlining Tuesday’s card at the Hipódromo de La Plata. First, City Land (Lizard Island, 54kg) made her local debut a winning one by taking the Especial Lux Lucis (1400m, dirt), and a short while later, El Quintral (Cursi Roy Top, 54.5kg) had no trouble justifying his strong support in the Especial Haras El Turf (1700m, dirt). The form players went home happy.
Trained at Palermo by María F. Alvarez and Wálter Suárez, City Land had never run over the La Plata surface, but that was no obstacle as she delivered a solid performance to earn her first victory above the allowance ranks in what has been a consistently generous career.
Carrying 54 kilos and with Elvio Candia Gutiérrez aboard, the Stud Tasejujojo representative settled in behind the speed for most of the journey, only abandoning that waiting style once they reached the stretch.
Up front, Puerta Plateada (Puerto Escondido, 52kg) controlled the race and opened a couple of lengths, but City Land swung out and surged late, collaring that rival in the final strides to win by a length in 1:24.41.
A bit later, in the Especial Haras El Turf, El Quintral made every pole a winning one, traveling strongly throughout and showing both stamina and courage when it mattered most.
With Jairo Flores in the saddle, the Juan D. Diestra trainee posted splits of :25.40, :48.72 and 1:12.40, and when Gadzooks (Galán de Cine, 55kg) tried to threaten in the stretch, he turned back the challenge convincingly before drawing off again late.
At the wire, the margin was three lengths, with Ree Airoso (Reelants, 54kg) another five lengths back in third, stopping the clock in 1:44.33. It was also the biggest win yet for the dark bay.
