LA PLATA.- The Buenos Aires filly Cálida Sonrisa stamped herself on the 2025 edition of the Gran Premio Selección de Potrancas (G1, 2,000 m, dirt), one of only two races on the La Plata calendar retaining top-level status, contested Sunday over a testing, heavy track.

Confirming her upward trajectory and benefiting from the lessons of her previous effort in the local Polla de Potrancas (G2)—where she had finished third off just a debut win at Palermo—the Cosmic Trigger filly proved herself the best three-year-old at La Plata, producing a measured, progressive performance that could have been even more decisive if she had not drifted inwards through much of the stretch.

Jockey William Pereyra was never overly concerned as she opened clear lengths on Mis Locuras (Manipulator) through splits of 25.35, 49.37, and 1:15.34. Approaching the far turn, the margins narrowed, and Cálida Sonrisa quickly asserted dominance.

The leader fought back, but Pereyra kept Cálida Sonrisa straight, allowing her to pull clear by a length over a deserving runner-up. Evelia (Daddy Long Legs) finished third, a length ahead of Class Life (Fortify), with the final time 2:13.09—illustrating just how testing the ground was. Elenika (Winning Prize) could manage only seventh, well beaten.

Bred by Haras Juan Antonio and owned by Stud El Arabe, Cálida Sonrisa is out of Chica Canalla (Not for Sale), a full sister to the notable Blues for Sale, dam of champions Blue Prize (Pure Prize) and Blue Stripe (Equal Stripe), as well as Blue Caviar (Equal Stripes), winner of last week’s Clásico Coronel Miguel F. Martínez (G3) at Palermo.

With this win, trainer Juan Saldivia adds another significant success to his La Plata résumé. On the rise, the bay filly confirmed her top-class status with a commanding performance in the Gran Premio Selección—and she looked every bit the part.
