The mare stands out in the lead-up to the Lux Lucis, while the horse will seek his best victory yet in the Haras El Turf

LA PLATA—The national racing scene will once again enjoy a double dose of stakes action, this time at the local track, where Tuesday’s card features the Especial Lux Lucis (1400m, dirt) and the Especial Haras El Turf (1700m, dirt). The former is for mares aged five and up, and the latter for horses five and older; in both cases, entrants must have at least three wins.
In the Lux Lucis, the most logical choice is to trust the strong recent form of Nipotina, who will also carry just 52 kilos. The daughter of Treasure Beach, to be ridden by Walter Aguirre, comes off two valuable efforts in stakes company.
She first finished second, beaten only a neck by Soy La Líder (Manipulator) in the Mad Corsaria, and then was third—much farther back, 17 lengths behind Paxing (Señor Candy)—in the Tía Gallarda after stretching out to 1700 meters.
She now returns to the distance of two of her three victories and faces a seemingly softer group, making her first win above the allowance ranks a realistic possibility.
Emma Linda (Emmanuel, 56kg) arrives off a strong local performance, having taken the Especial Illegally Blonde over Jalimba (Señor Candy) and Mi Negra Paula (Reflecting), and she will look to build on that.
Also entered is City Land (Lizard Island, 54kg), sharp for the María D. Alvarez–Wálter Suárez team at Palermo and most recently fifth in the Clásico Día de la Soberanía Nacional. Though she finished last that day, she was only 9 1/2 lengths behind Emely (Il Campione), and with the drop in class…
Finally, Funny Polly (Aerosol, 54kg) returns to the course where she captured the Especial Wanna Dance, looking to erase with one stroke her two lackluster efforts at Palermo.
In the Especial Haras El Turf, the main responsibility falls on El Quintral (Cursi Roy Top, 54kg), long respected and arriving off a string of solid performances. He notched back-to-back wins here earlier in the year and recently returned from a layoff to finish second by 1 1/2 lengths behind the talented Chanclette (Super Saver) in a Palermo mile allowance.
Gadzooks (Galán de Cine, 54kg) will try to make things as difficult as possible, after a more than respectable fifth-place finish—just 2 1/4 lengths behind Billion (Galicado)—in the Clásico Jockey Club del Paraguay, a far tougher category in terms of competition.
