Iniciación Kicks Off 2025 Auction Season in Argentina This Tuesday

Organized by MZ Horse Sales, the auction will present 37 broodmares, including a significant reduction from Haras La Madrina

There are many questions surrounding how the market will respond in the 2025 auctions, given the ongoing economic crisis in Argentina and the current state of the industry, which is filled with uncertainty, skyrocketing costs, and prize money that, in many cases, is at rock bottom.

Even more questions arise regarding the thoroughbred breeding sector, following a well-established decline in both foal production and the number of establishments dedicated to this true art.

Well, the auction season in Argentina will begin this Tuesday with the Iniciación Sale, organized by MZ Horse Sales, which will serve as a barometer for the situation. It will offer 37 broodmares, including a significant reduction from Haras La Madrina.

The live virtual event will begin at 3:00 p.m. and will feature consignments from Estirpe de Criadores, La Catedral, Cortines, Egalité de 9, and Stud MM, among others, in addition to the mares from Horacio González's farm.

The lot includes daughters of Easing Along (Storm Cat), Cosmic Trigger (Lizard Island), Luhuk (Forty Niner), Catcher In the Rye (Danehill), Storm Embrujado (Bernstein), Lizard Island (Danehill Dancer), Animal Kingdom(Leroidosanimaux), Equal Stripes (Candy Stripes), Roman Ruler (Fusaichi Pegasus), Pure Prize (Storm Cat), etc., all in foal to: Señor Candy (Candy Ride), Treasure Beach (Galileo), Storm Embrujado, Pneumatic (Uncle Mo), Ride a Comet (Candy Ride), Le Blues (Roman Ruler), Daddy Long Legs (Scat Daddy), Remote (Dansili), Verifying (Justify), Nicodemus (Candy Ride), Hiper Happy (Pure Prize), Sandino Ruler (Roman Ruler), and Emotion Orpen (Orpen), among others.

Notable mares include Amaike (Roman Ruler), a sister to G2 winner Ayra (Roman Ruler), with a foal by Señor Candyat foot; La Ahijada, offered in foal to Daddy Long Legs and with a colt at foot by Cosmic Trigger; classic producer Win the Stars (Luhuk), with a service to Pneumatic; Jugada Maestra (Luhuk), a G3 winner of the Jugarreta(Mutakddim), in foal to Le Blues with her third foal on the way; and La Bella María (Grand Reward), who won three races at La Plata, in foal to Daddy Long Legs.
