SAN ISIDRO, Buenos Aires (Special for Turf Diario).— A pair of open-category maidens for 3-year-olds injected special interest into Wednesday's program at Hipódromo de San Isidro. Offering youngsters a fresh opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities, the conditional races yielded two notable names for the tracker: Internal Affairs, who successfully navigated his career debut, and Litigada, who comprehensively erased the subpar impression left in her initial outing.

The Premio El Uno Grande, contested over 1,400 meters for 3-year-old maiden colts, produced one of the most entertaining finishes of the afternoon. There, Internal Affairs (Fortify and Idocrase, by Roman Ruler, bred by Haras Vacación) registered a demanding yet promising debut, prevailing by a half-neck over Editor del Sur (South Kissing), whose late-closing charge kept the result in doubt until the final stride.

The winner settled in mid-pack through the early stages, making steady headway as the race unfolded. His opening materialised along the inside rail: he squeezed through on the fence and grabbed the lead about 150 meters from the wire. He still had one final test to pass, as his eventual runner-up closed furiously from deep off the pace.

Editor del Sur had been well back before uncorking a massive late rally, though the finish line arrived just in time to thwart his attempt. Internal Affairs maintained a tiny but decisive margin to break his maiden at the first time of asking, displaying an ability to weave through traffic and grit to defend his advantage.

A short while later, the fillies took center stage in the Premio Batallón de Patricios, also over 1,400 meters for 3-year-old maidens. Litigada (Señor Candy and Luminosa Es, by Jump Start, bred by Haras La Esperanza) completely wiped away the memory of her seventh-place debut in early August, scoring by two lengths over Milan Lady (Uncle Chuck) in a performance markedly different from the drama of Internal Affairs’ victory.

This time, the answer came from the front. Litigada took control from the gates and asserted herself in the home straight, maintaining her lead to complete a decisive redemption. The contrast between her two starts was stark, turning a quiet debut into an authoritative victory free of the late-race anxiety that characterized the colts' division.

Among the older runners, Poema Lírico (Forge and Punta Clovis, by Easing Along, bred by Haras Pozo de Luna) impressed in the second race, the Premio Sol y Boss, run over 2,000 meters for 5-year-olds with one or two wins. The winner had to dig deep to deny Vamos Hércules (Southern Cat) by a neck, regaining the winner's circle after a period of inconsistent performances.

Third in the Clásico Calidoscopio (L), Poema Lírico possessed the back class to support his chances and found the right spot to make it count. Though the margin was narrow, the return to top spot proved valuable for a horse seeking to rediscover his best form.

There was another tight finish in the Premio Defensa de Buenos Aires, where Rayo Girl (Remote and Basha Girl, by Hollín, bred by Bingo Horse SA. and Asebel SA.) secured the fourth victory of her career. The mare prevailed by a mere half-head over Quinta Potencia (Endorsement), adding another close finish to an afternoon where the 3-year-olds provided much of the excitement.
