The Ocala juvenile market remains red-hot, with the filly ranking among the most expensive ever sold

OCALA, Florida (Special to Turf Diario).— The OBS Spring 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale continues to deliver eye-catching figures, reaching another peak Wednesday with the sale of a filly from the first crop of Jackie’s Warrior for $2.3 million—making her the second-highest-priced filly in the history of the sale and the most expensive ever sold at this venue.

Consigned by Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds, the filly had already turned heads during the under-tack show, blazing 200 meters in :9 3/5—one of the fastest times recorded—sparking intense interest among buyers.

Through two sessions, the market has maintained a clear upward trajectory: 314 horses sold for a total of $50,655,000, with an average of $161,322—up 13% from the same point last year and also ahead of the record final average posted in 2025. The median currently stands at $80,000, reflecting an even sharper rise.

Agent Alex Cole, acting on behalf of buyer Fitriani Hay (under the name D. Farrington), confirmed that the filly will remain in the United States and be trained by Wesley Ward, one of the leading specialists with 2-year-olds.

“She’ll go to Keeneland. Wesley recommended her, and we wouldn’t spend that kind of money if she wasn’t nearly perfect in her conformation,” Cole said.

The Jackie’s Warrior filly is out of stakes winner Brazen Persuasion (Indian Charlie), winner of the Schuylerville Stakes (G3) and already a proven producer, further enhancing her appeal.

For Dean DeRenzo, the sale carried special meaning: “This is our home. We sold the first million-dollar horse in OBS history, and now we have the most expensive filly. It’s very significant for us.”

Though Jackie’s Warrior is only now seeing his first runners reach the track, he is already making a strong impact in the marketplace, with several high-profile offerings—and notably, his top prices so far concentrated among fillies.

With two sessions remaining, the OBS Spring Sale continues to reflect a blend of selectivity and strong demand, reinforcing its status as one of the most sensitive barometers of the global juvenile market.

And if anything has become clear, it’s that early speed still commands extraordinary prices.
