The "Magic Man" shone at Happy Valley, booting home four winners for Caspar Fownes and tightening the gap in the trainers' championship race

HONG KONG (Special to Turf Diario)— The "Magic Man" is back. Joao Moreira dominated Wednesday’s card at Happy Valley, booting home four winners to signal a major shift in the Hong Kong trainers' title race.

Partnering almost exclusively with trainer Caspar Fownes, Moreira’s four-timer moved the stable into a tie for the lead in the premiership. Fownes and Mark Newnham now sit level at 47 wins apiece as the season enters its stretch run.

Moreira’s clinic started in the Cochrane Handicap, where he produced a perfectly timed late charge aboard Decision Link from the widest gate. He doubled up in the D'Aguilar Handicap with Golden Brilliant before taking the Wyndham Handicap in front-running fashion with Sky Cap.

After a tough beat in the Glenealy Handicap—where he finished second aboard Sky Vino behind Silvery Breeze—Moreira closed out the program with an authoritative win on Perfect General.

"Caspar had them spot on," Moreira noted after the final race. The four-win haul serves notice to the circuit that the Moreira-Fownes tandem remains one of the most lethal partnerships in Asian racing as the 2025/26 campaign reaches its climax.
