Returning to Sprint Action, the Son of Roman Joy Wire-to-Wire in the Clásico Club Hípico de Tandil (L)

LA PLATA.- With racing fans still catching their breath following the agonizing but unforgettable victory of the Argentine national football team over Egypt in the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup, the focus shifted back to the track this Tuesday afternoon at the forest oval.

While the football pitch ultimately delivered the expected result despite the high drama, the racetrack provided a genuine surprise. Returning to sprinting distances after a highly disappointing fifth-place finish—beaten 18 1/2 lengths by Fletcher (Gershwin)—in the Clásico Pedro Goenaga (G2), Joy Conquistador bounced back in spectacular fashion to secure his first career black-type title in the Clásico Club Hípico de Tandil (L), contested over 1,100 meters on a fast dirt track.

Facing a seven-runner field that included two debutants and two maidens, the son of Roman Joy set the terms right from the start. Displaying excellent early speed, he dictated a clear path and kept the heavy favorite Arc Village (Angiolo) firmly at bay throughout, crossing the wire with an authoritative 3-length advantage.

A head further back, Mister Market (Market Rally) completed the trifecta, while the remainder of the field filled the minor positions exactly as their paper credentials suggested. The final time stopped in an acceptable 1m4s37/100, though fractional times were once again unavailable from the official timing system.

Trained by Leonardo R. Rodríguez, Joy Conquistador provided a landmark milestone for jockey Darío Lencinas, who celebrated the very first stakes victory of his professional career. Since launching his riding campaign in 2021, Lencinas has now visited the winner's circle on 157 occasions.

Bred by Marcelo Ricardo Giacobone at Haras El Wing and carrying the colors of Stud Doctoreco, the dark bay colt is the first foal out of Ian (Cisne Branco), a winner at San Isidro tracing back to an old, though recently quiet, family from Haras El Paraíso.

After a brief and challenging testing phase on the classic route, Joy Conquistador has found his true calling back in the sprinting ranks. The immediate challenge going forward will be maintaining this upward trajectory within a highly competitive division, with the prestigious Clásico Ciudad de La Plata (G2) looming as a long-term target on his calendar.
