Justify to Remain at $200,000 Stud Fee at Coolmore, Adding Nysos, Journalism, and Magnitude

Ashford Stud announced its 16-stallion roster for 2027, with the 2018 Triple Crown winner as its principal figure. Tiz the Law and Golden Pal increased their fees, while Practical Joke, Sierra Leone, and Fierceness will have lower values

VERSAILLES, Kentucky (Special for Turf Diario).— Justify will continue to serve as the flagship stallion for Coolmore America during the 2027 breeding season. The 2018 American Triple Crown winner will hold his $200,000 stud fee at Ashford Stud, the operation located near Versailles, Kentucky, which announced a 16-stallion roster featuring several major new additions and fee adjustments.
The news was released on Wednesday, October 21, reaffirming Coolmore's strong confidence in the son of Scat Daddy, who currently ranks fifth on the North American general sire list by progeny earnings.
The announcement also highlighted Nysos (Nyquist), Journalism (Curlin), and Magnitude (Not This Time), a trio of G1 winners joining the farm to offer breeders a high-profile lineup of new prospects.
The former two have already been retired from racing. Nysos will enter stud at an $80,000 fee, while Journalism has been set at $60,000. Conversely, Magnitude's fee will be announced following the completion of his racing campaign. Winner of the Dubai World Cup (G1) and the Stephen Foster Stakes (G1), the colt is scheduled to compete on October 31 in the $7 million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) at Keeneland.
“We are delighted to present our stallion roster for 2027, which combines proven quality at the highest level with a truly exciting group of new additions,” noted Charlie O'Connor, Director of Sales for Coolmore America.
“Nysos combined sheer speed with extraordinary consistency, Journalism brings a stakes-winning campaign along with outstanding physical conformation, while Magnitude proved his class with dominant victories in Dubai and in the Stephen Foster. We look forward to cheering him on in the Classic before he joins our roster,” he added.
Justify: Global Influence
Justify's position at the helm of the Ashford roster comes as no surprise. The son of Scat Daddy and Stage Magic(Ghostzapper) dominated the American racing scene in 2018 when he captured the Kentucky Derby (G1), Preakness Stakes (G1), and Belmont Stakes (G1) to sweep the Triple Crown.
While his racing campaign took place exclusively on dirt, as a sire he has shown remarkable versatility. His progeny have captured G1 events on both dirt and turf across the United States, Europe, and Australia—a breadth of success that explains his strong international demand.
“Justify continues to give breeders plenty of reasons to celebrate, with G1 winners across multiple continents,” O'Connor emphasized.
The executive also expressed satisfaction with the reception given to Sierra Leone (Gun Runner), Fierceness (City of Light), and Citizen Bull (Into Mischief) during their first season at stud, anticipating great expectation surrounding their first foals, due in the northern spring of 2027.
Tiz the Law and Golden Pal On the Rise
Among the fee modifications, the rise for Tiz the Law stands out, increasing from $40,000 to $60,000—a 50 percent bump. The son of Constitution currently ranks second among third-crop sires in North America, propelled by his runners' performances on the track.
Golden Pal (Uncle Mo) also received a notable boost, going from $25,000 to $35,000. The world-class turf sprinter leads the freshman sire standings, a sparkling start that has ignited fresh interest among breeders.
On the other hand, several established names saw reductions. Practical Joke (Into Mischief) drops from $75,000 to $55,000, while Sierra Leone, winner of the 2024 Breeders' Cup Classic, moves from $75,000 to $65,000.
Fierceness will also see his fee adjusted from $50,000 down to $40,000, and Munnings (Speightstown) drops from $45,000 to $35,000.
The adjustments reflect Coolmore's strategy to maintain a competitive offering in an increasingly demanding breeding market, where commercial demand and initial progeny results carry decisive weight. Adrian Wallace, also of Coolmore America, noted that interest extends beyond the proven siring mainstays.
The first foals by Domestic Product (Practical Joke) have made a very favorable impression ahead of the November sales, while the first yearlings by Gunite (Gun Runner) were well received during the autumn auctions.
In addition, the farm's four freshman sires have made encouraging starts with their initial 2-year-old runners on the track.
“There is so much to be excited about across the entire roster. The first foals by Domestic Product have made a very positive impression, and the yearlings by Gunite were well received. Our four freshman sires have also started very promisingly,” Wallace explained.
“Together with established sires like Practical Joke, Tiz the Law, and Munnings, we offer breeders a solid blend of quality, variety, and value,” he added.
Anchored by Justify, bolstered by three new G1 winners, and supported by young sires beginning to prove their worth, Ashford Stud enters 2027 with one of the most attractive stallion lineups in Kentucky.
The final piece of the puzzle remains Magnitude. His upcoming start in the Breeders' Cup Classic could add even greater luster to an addition Coolmore already views as strategic for the future of its American division.
