Though his first crop is relatively small—comprising just 33 foals—King Guillermo was bred to mares of notable pedigree or accomplished racing careers while standing at Haras La Providencia, giving his stud career a solid and promising foundation

This Wednesday, during the Gran Venta Anual at Haras La ProvidenciaKing Guillermo will enjoy his first major moment in the sale ring. The stallion, acquired in 2022 by José Luiz Depieri’s operation and currently standing at Haras La Pasión, will be represented by a select group of yearlings from his debut crop.

A son of the recently deceased Uncle Mo (Indian Charlie), the late Coolmore America standout, King Guillermo broke his maiden in his second start at two at Gulfstream Park West, quickly graduating to stakes company. After finishing third in the Pulpit S. (L), he scored a breakthrough win in the G2 Tampa Bay Derby before running second, three lengths behind Nadal (Blame), in the G1 Arkansas Derby. He was being pointed toward the Kentucky Derby as a leading contender before an injury derailed those plans. He returned seven months later with a strong fourth-place finish in the G1 Cigar Mile and a fifth in the G2 San Pasqual S.

King Guillermo is a half-brother to stakes-placed Dorothy B. (Fastnet Rock) and Northern Star (Montjeu), a winner at three who went on to produce Starman (Dutch Art), Europe’s Champion Sprinter of 2021 and victor of the G1 July Cup, and Sunday Star (Kodiak), a multiple G3-placed runner.

His second dam, Slow Down (Seattle Slew), was a listed stakes winner in the U.S. and produced G3 winners Slow Pace(Distorted Humor) and Funny Duck (Distorted Humor), as well as G2-placed Segway (Giant’s Causeway).

Going further back, his third dam Corrazona (El Gran Senor) captured the G1 Beverly Hills S., the G3 Santa Anita Budweiser Breeders’ Cup H., and two Group 3s in France before producing G3 winner Olmodavor (A.P. Indy), among other accomplished family members such as Thirsty Six Red (Slew o’Gold).

With Uncle Mo on the top side of his pedigree, King Guillermo offers an attractive outcross to many prevalent bloodlines, including those descending from Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector.

Though limited to just 33 foals in his first crop, the stallion has quality on his side. Among his first yearlings are the progeny of noted stakes winners Little Gem (Pure Prize), Right Fula (Nugget Point), Scarpetta (Super Saver), and Idaira Chika (Hunky), as well as siblings to standout runners such as Kononkop (Pure Prize), Livingstone (Jump Start), Guiltless (Full Mast), Yumara Chica (Cityscape), Koller (Orpen), and Riggs (Mutakddim).
