Bill Mott confirmed that the recent winner of the Pacific Classic (G1) will face the best horses in the world at Keeneland, ruling out the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) option. He will share stable honors with Sovereignty and contribute early speed that could prove decisive in the race flow

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (From a Special Envoy).— Godolphin has decided to play all its strongest cards in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1). This Monday morning, trainer Bill Mott confirmed that Knightsbridge, recent winner of the Pacific Classic (G1), will compete in the $7,000,000 event to be held this coming Saturday at Keeneland, where he will share stable representation with Sovereignty (Into Mischief), winner of the 2025 Kentucky Derby (G1) and reigning American Horse of the Year.

The decision resolved one of the primary questions surrounding the lineup for the Breeders' Cup Classic, as Knightsbridge had also been cross-entered in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1), though as a second preference.

The 5-year-old son of Nyquist arrives in peak form, and his presence adds another G1 winner to a race that promises to assemble many of the finest horses on the planet.

Bill Mott explained that the choice resulted from a joint analysis between the training team and Godolphinmanagement.

“There was a discussion. We went back and forth with the issue, everyone gave their opinion,” admitted the Hall of Fame trainer.

“Some arguments arose about how important it would be for Godolphin to win the Breeders' Cup Classic. I was fine with either race. Finally, we made a decision, and we're going to stick to it, win, lose, or draw,” he added.

The confirmation carries special weight because Sovereignty also arrives in peak condition, having completed his final serious workout at Keeneland on Sunday, covering 800 meters in 48s20.

The champion had encountered minor setbacks during his preparation due to a foot abscess, but recovered fully and satisfied Bill Mott with his final breeze.

In this manner, Godolphin will field two top-tier representatives, albeit with contrasting running styles.

A Front-Runner Who Can Change Everything

The inclusion of Knightsbridge introduces a significant tactical element into the Breeders' Cup Classic.

Unlike Sovereignty, who typically saves his energy for the latter stages of the race, Knightsbridge possesses substantial early speed and customarily races near the front.

Bill Mott made it clear he has no intention of altering those tactics.

“He's a naturally fast horse. You won't see us trying to make him come from behind,” he stated.

That declaration indicates Knightsbridge could dictate or heavily influence the pace from the opening strides, a factor the connections of other contenders—including Japan's Forever Young—will certainly take into account.

The prospect of Godolphin fielding two horses with distinct styles creates a compelling scenario, though Bill Mottinsisted the choice to target the Breeders' Cup Classic was ultimately driven by Knightsbridge's own quality.

A Season That Elevated Him to the Elite

Bred by Godolphin, Knightsbridge is a son of Nyquist and Tyburn Brook, by Bernardini, enjoying a campaign that reached its peak during 2026.

In his six starts this season, he has recorded four victories, highlighted by the Pacific Classic (G1)—the triumph that established him among the premier stayers in the United States.

Previously, he had captured the Monmouth Cup Stakes (G3), the Gulfstream Park Mile Stakes (G3), and the Mr. Prospector Stakes (G3), demonstrating remarkable versatility over various distances.

His victory at Del Mar in the Pacific Classic proved he could carry his speed over longer routes, opening the door to take on the best in the Breeders' Cup.

Now, with the decision finalized, Bill Mott can focus on the final details of a preparation involving two of the most prominent horses in the global operation.

The post position draw for all 14 Breeders' Cup races will take place this Monday afternoon at Keeneland.

The Breeders' Cup Classic thus adds another high-caliber contender and, above all, a key player capable of directly influencing the race flow. With both Sovereignty and Knightsbridge confirmed, Godolphin will aim to make the 2026 edition one of the most memorable in its history.
