The daughter of Exchange Rate was purchased for $30,000 by Haras Chiapill, in foal to Daddy Long Legs and with a colt at foot by Cosmic Trigger

The 2025 sales season kicked off last Tuesday in Argentina with the Iniciación sale, organized by MZ Horse Sales, which featured a lot of 37 broodmares and in-training horses, including a significant reduction from Haras La Madrina.
The event attracted plenty of attention, and, as expected, nothing was straightforward. The market acceptedably valued the most valuable lots, took risks with some new broodmares, but showed little interest in lower-quality horses. In fact, 11 hips went unsold.
The top price was achieved by La Ahijada, a daughter of Exchange Rate from Haras La Madrina, offered with a colt at foot by Cosmic Trigger and in foal to Daddy Long Legs, two of the hottest sires at the moment. In this context, the $30,000 (official) paid by Haras Chiapill seemed low for such a package. The mare, out of a Bernstein dam, is backed by an old family from Haras La Biznaga.
The second-highest bid went to Amaike (Roman Ruler), a 9-year-old mare offered without cover but with a filly by Señor Candy at foot. Benjamín Aladro, acting as an agent, made the final bid of $15,600, securing the lot.
Amaike is a full sister to G2 winner Ayra, as well as classic-placed mares Rebecci (Fortify) and Doña Tita (Hurricane Cat), and to Amiga del Corazón (Roman Ruler), the dam of Angel del Cielo (Orpen), who finished second in the Polla de Potrillos (G3) at La Plata.
The top three highest prices were rounded out by Candy Beach (Lizard Island), in foal to Pneumatic, and Marchanta Queen (Animal Kingdom), in foal to Remote, both sold for $15,300 (official). The former was bought by Nueva Imagen and the latter by San Pedro.
The 2025 sales season has officially begun, and now the focus shifts to the yearlings, which are sure to reveal much more...
