Farm hosts auction Thursday in San Antonio de Areco, with debut crop of its flagship sire headlining the catalog

In a season where several stallions are making their debut in the sales ring, Thursday afternoon will be different for Haras La Leyenda, which at its Second Annual Sale will offer the first crop of the well-bred Capensis, a son of Tapit with an imposing physique and the great hope for the upcoming season at Alberto and Renata Stein’s farm.
A total of 30 lots will be offered starting at 2 p.m., following lunch, at the farm’s facilities and under the organization of Racehorse, in a live format, though online and telephone bidding will also be available.
Capensis, who predominantly passes on his gray coat, shares the catalog with other successful stallions such as Il Campione (Scat Daddy) and Fortify (Distorted Humor), while progeny of Storm Embrujado (Bernstein), Sovereign (Galileo), and Mutasaabeq (Into Mischief) will also be on offer.
As noted, by Tapit, Capensis brought a fortune as a yearling and went on to win the G3 Virginia Derby on the track. His dam, Tara’s Tango, captured the GI Santa Margarita Stakes and hails from a family that also includes G1 winners Scottish Lassie (McKinzie) and Visionaire (Grand Slam), among others.
Tapit’s sons are already proving highly successful at stud. Without going any further, Mask’s numbers in Argentina are outstanding, as are those of Gouverneur Morris, a grandson of the Gainesway standout through Constitution, who has been very prominent in the United States. Frosted, Essential Quality—with his first crop—or Tonalist are other examples. And there is also Flightline, another son of Tapit, waiting to make his mark.
La Leyenda sent its best mares to its flagship stallion, and as a result the draft includes siblings to G1 winner Wild Ones (Cima de Tiomphe) and to stakes winners Fiolo Boss (Holy Boss), Swiss Candy (Señor Candy), Maranelo (Holy Boss), and Perfect Miranda (Lizard Island). Also featured are progeny out of G3 winner Torgau (Exchange Rate) and the first foal of Swiss Candy.
Other highlights include Pan Zhale (Mutasaabeq), a half-brother to champion Prelude Rye (Catcher In the Rye) and stakes winner Preston Boss (Holy Boss); and Bonafila (Sovereign), a half-sister to G3 winner Bachata Queen (Storm Embrujado).
The stage is set for La Leyenda’s Second Annual Sale, where Capensis is poised to put on a show.
