In top form, the La Valkiria mare looms large in the Handicap Con Brio

The Handicap Con Brio (1000m, dirt) will headline Monday’s card at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo, bringing together a competitive group of fillies and mares aged 4 to 6, though for a relatively modest purse of ARS 7,000,000.

Despite being assigned a demanding top weight of 60.5 kilos, La Mykonos (Mask) clearly towers over her rivals on current form, enjoying one of the most productive stretches of her career.

A recent winner of the Handicap Spiny, she had previously finished third in both the G3 General Alvear and G3 General Francisco B. Bosch, while also scoring in the Handicap Sandal over the San Isidro turf—efforts that underline both her versatility and consistency at this level.

The La Valkiria homebred will face a potentially dangerous rival in Jugadoraza (Winning Prize, 52), who returned from a lengthy layoff with a solid victory on a wet track at San Isidro. Now back in rhythm, she could be poised to rediscover the form that once saw her competitive in graded company—and she carries a notably light impost.

Though not at her absolute best of late, A La Vista (Angiolo, 54.5) remains a name that commands respect. Runner-up in the G3 Lotería de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires and the Snow Figure, as well as in the Handicap Borobeta, she comes off a disappointing effort in the Handicap Ipe but deserves another chance to rebound.

For those looking beyond the obvious, Manjar Exquisito (Compasivo Cat, 51) brings admirable consistency and could reward each-way support, while Bantia (John F Kennedy, 56) appears better than her recent form suggests and cannot be dismissed lightly.

In a race where weight, form, and pace will all play a role, La Mykonos enters as the one to beat—but not without challenges lurking behind.
