LA PLATA.- LA PLATA, Argentina—Enjoying the best stretch of her career, La Nicolina (6, El MoisésMackenzie Nicole, by Royal Academy) had no trouble claiming top honors in Tuesday’s featured Especial Haras Orilla del Monte, run over 1400 meters on the main track at La Plata.

Open to mares four and up with three or more wins, the race marked a third consecutive success for the Stud-Haras Esece homebred, who made a smooth transition from the allowance ranks under a well-judged ride by apprentice Lucas Guida, carrying 54 kilos.

The early fractions saw Curiosa Hit (Hit It a Bomb, 54), Tac-Tac (Manipulator, 52), and Estaciones Porteñas (Safety Check, 52) vying for the lead, before the latter gave way. Meanwhile, La Nicolina settled in fourth, keeping in close range but out of the fray. Guida kept her relaxed until midway around the far turn, when he allowed her to advance three wide. She took control at the top of the stretch and quickly drew clear, displaying clear superiority through the lane.

Señora Maga (Señor Candy, 52) launched a late run from midpack but couldn’t make up enough ground, finishing a length behind the winner, while Mayora Chuck (Chuck Berry, 52) was another three lengths back in third. The final time was 1:24.57.

Trained by Ernesto Donadío, La Nicolina is out of Mackenzie Nicole, an imported daughter of Royal Academy who has already produced four multiple winners, underscoring the depth of this American family.

With only 14 starts and now five career victories, La Nicolina seems to be reaching her full potential late in her career. Retirement can wait—if she continues to find suitable company and manageable weight assignments, she looks poised to keep her winning momentum going.
