The filly that kicked off her career sprinting over the straight course now scored a decisive victory in the Clásico Marina Lezcano, mastering the challenging 1400 meters on the San Isidro turf

At least for now, no challenge seems impossible for La Santa Cándida. The filly that began her campaign sprinting 1000 meters over the straight course and subsequently won over 1200 meters took another step forward in her upward trajectory with an authoritative victory in the Clásico Marina Lezcano (1400m), contested over a wet turf track as the main attraction of a highly appealing Sunday card at Hipódromo de San Isidro.

It is difficult to predict how far the daughter of Le Blues will be able to go, relying on the old racing adage that speed is the foundation for stamina. For the time being, the homebred representing El Paraíso and Los Patrios is following that script to the letter.

With Iván Monasterolo in the irons, the bay did not yield a single inch of ground along the rail, traveling within close reach of early pacesetter Black Win (Winning Prize), who set moderate splits of 27s02/100 and 50s75/100 on very demanding going.

Once in the homestretch, La Santa Cándida took a few strides to find clear running room, but as soon as a gap opened between Black Win and Risk Free (Outstrip), she launched a resolute bid. Taking command around the 400-meter mark, she comfortably kept favorite Gota Clara Sos (Made You Look) at bay from there on out, leaving her runner-up by 4 lengths in a final time of 1m27s63/100.

Conditioned by Eduardo Accosano, La Santa Cándida now boasts three wins from four career starts, with her lone defeat coming against colts. The filly is out of stakes winner Spirited (Sebi Halo), making her a half-sibling to the dam of El Epecuén (Il Campione), currently one of the top two sprinters in the country.

The Clásico Federico de Alvear (G2) and the Gran Premio Enrique Acebal (G1) loom on the horizon for turf fillies. Will La Santa Cándida step up to meet those challenges next?
