Every individual connected to the marvelous world of horse racing goes to sleep dreaming that their horse will find the winner’s circle the following day. Such must have been the hopes of Gerardo Alteño on Friday night, as he looked forward to a Saturday double at Palermo with Ninguneando (Bodemeister) and Le Cornette (Emmanuel) in the Expressive Halo (L-2200m, turf) and the Jerry Honor (1000m, dirt), respectively.

As it turned out, everything went perfectly for the professional, who swept both events in a masterful display of training versatility, excelling in two completely opposite categories and on different surfaces.

While the Expressive Halo held higher status as a listed event, it was the Jerry Honor that drew the most interest, featuring a small but elite field of participants.

In a clash of today’s top sprinters, Le Cornette returned to his winning ways with a dominant and solid performance, proving that even as he nears his 7-year-old season, he remains in peak form.

Breaking sharply to lead from the jump, the Stud Chajari chestnut never needed to be fully extended to achieve his goal, drawing away from the 300-meter mark to cross the wire with a 2-length advantage over the colt Naranccello (Le Blues), who ran a big race. Another half-length back, the favorite El Epecuen (Il Campione) performed well below expectations to finish third, all stopping the clock in :57.22 over a fast track.

Meanwhile, Ninguneando did not miss his chance to become a stakes winner, parlaying his good current form against a modest field. Much like Le Cornette, the La Pasion-bred bay took the lead at the start, secured his position along the rail, and never looked back, reaching the wire 2 lengths ahead of Tambaqui (True Cause) in 2:17.76.

Emanuel J. Flores and Martin Valle were the winning partners for Alteño on his perfect afternoon.
