The defection of El Epecuén was a significant blow, but the clash between the last two sprint champions is a massive attraction

The Gran Premio Estrellas Sprint (G1-1000 m, turf) is set to be one of the major attractions within the Carreras de las Estrellas series, sponsored by the Fundación Equina Argentina, as is almost always the case...

The list of 16 entries was reduced to 11 confirmed runners this Monday, with the significant defection of El Epecuén (Il Campione); however, the latest clash between two titans of the division, three-time champion Labrado (Le Blues) and Le Cornette (Emmanuel), the current king of the straight, is more than enough as a headline.

In Labrado's case, there will be the added incentive of chasing an unprecedented fourth Estrellas victory for his record, having captured this very race in 2023 and 2024, alongside his victory in the Gran Premio Estrellas Junior Sprint (G1) as a 2-year-old in 2022.

Le Cornette, for his part, is nothing less than the defending champion, having lifted the trophy 12 months ago when the Sprint was held on the Hipódromo de Palermo dirt.

The starting gates will feature two mares, La Mykonos (Mask) and Pilar (Brz-Can the Man), within a lineup completed by Claro Key (Claro Oscuro), El Madrugador (Il Campione), Hiran (Santillano), Land of Promise (Le Blues), Lindo Tono Pass (Distinctiv Passion), Martinique (Señor Candy), and Santo Federal (Santillano).

The purses to be distributed in the Gran Premio Estrellas Sprint rise to 48,000,000 pesos, with 30,000,000 destined for the winner, $9,000,000 to the second, $4,800,000 to the third, $2,400,000 to the fourth, and $1,800,000 to the fifth.

With Labrado and Le Cornette among the contenders, the San Isidro turf straight will be on fire this Saturday with a top-tier edition of the Sprint. The race will be the only G1 on Saturday's card that will not be part of the World Pool broadcast.
