LA PLATA.- Over a heavy track, Le Massif turned the tables on Arcanum (Horse Greeley) with a determined victory in Sunday’s Clásico Julio Corte (L–1100m, dirt), the featured race on an otherwise lackluster card at La Plata.

Racing for Stud El Gruñón, the colt had finished 2 1/2 lengths behind his rival just over a month ago in the Asociación Bonaerense de Propietarios (G3), and had made two subsequent starts, including a third-place finish in a conditions race just three days earlier.

Clearly, the quick turnaround didn’t dull Le Massif’s performance. He raced in a stalking position early as Influential Boy (Remote) and the filly Doña Chila (Peten Itza) showed the way up front.

Saving ground around the turn, he seized command before straightening for home and, shifting toward the center of the track, dug in to fend off a late challenge from Arcanum, stopping the clock in 1:06.35. Another 2 1/2 lengths back, Hit Tifón (Hit It a Bomb) completed the trifecta.

It was a solid ride from Lautaro Balmaceda, guiding Le Massif to become the first black-type winner by G1 victor Le Ken (Easing Along). Out of Mitigosa (Lucky Roberto), the winner is a half-brother to multiple stakes-placed Grandvalira (Most Improved) and to Niseko (Most Improved).
