Libertango produced an explosive late surge to deliver a maiden Breeders' Cup victory for trainer George Boughey

The Irish-bred filly justified her favoritism in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1), unleasing a formidable late turn of foot to score by 1 1/4 lengths over Hell of A Spin. Billy Loughnane made weight at the eleventh hour and ended up playing a leading role in an unforgettable afternoon

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (From a special correspondent).— Libertango needed only the final stretch to demonstrate why she was the overwhelming favorite in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1). Just as Harper's Corner(Speaker's Corner) appeared set to steal the victory, the daughter of No Nay Never launched a devastating turn of foot, driving past the field to score by a length and a quarter, giving trainer George Boughey his maiden victory in the World Championships.
The race, contested this Friday over 1,100 meters on Keeneland's firm turf course, featured all the ingredients of a thrilling contest, including a post-race inquiry that revised the final placings. However, it also delivered a compelling narrative in Billy Loughnane, the young jockey who seemed destined to forfeit the mount due to weight issues, only to end up celebrating one of the signature triumphs of his career.
Initially, Libertango had been assigned to Flavien Prat, as Loughnane was not in a position to make the required 54 kilograms (118 lbs). Nevertheless, he made weight at the eleventh hour, reclaiming the reins on a filly he knew inside and out.
That decision proved decisive. Breaking from post 3, Libertango secured a favorable position, tracking the pace along the inside while her rider kept her settled to conserve energy for the stretch drive. With Ruiva (Munnings) setting the tempo, the favorite was forced to bide her time. Navigating the far turn, she briefly lacked racing room behind the leaders, but Loughnane remained composed.
Straightening for home, he angled her outward into clear running room to unleash her stretch bid. Harper's Cornerhad taken command and appeared on course for victory, with Hell of A Spin (Naval Crown) making strong late progress as well. However, Libertango found an extra gear, putting the race away with supreme authority in a final time of 1:02.64 over firm ground.
Hell of A Spin finished second, a head in front of Harper's Corner, but the official order of finish remained on hold.
An objection lodged by David Egan, rider of Force Noir (Persian Force), along with a stewards' inquiry, resulted in the disqualification of Harper's Corner from third down to eighth position. Consequently, Mussab (Ten Sovereigns) was promoted to third, while Final Objective (Sioux Nation) was elevated to fourth.
For Boughey, the emotion was overwhelming: “It's an unbelievable feeling. It means so much to us. Traveling the world with these horses and winning a Breeders' Cup race is the absolute pinnacle,
