Steadily and without missing a beat, Lissette Island continues to take firm steps forward among the nation’s sprinters—a division without a clear leader at the moment. And the clearest evidence of her emergence came Monday at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo, where the Córdoba-bred filly handled the heavy track to perfection and delivered a dominant victory in the G3 Clásico General Güemes (1000m), the week’s main event on Argentina’s major racing circuit.

After finishing a disappointing fifth in the G3 Lotería de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, the daughter of Lizard Islandbounced back in full force, overpowering her eight rivals with total authority under a confident ride by jockey Iván Monasterolo.

Breaking from an outside post, the dark bay was sharp from the outset, settling just off pacesetter Beau Breeze (AP Candy) and maintaining that position through nearly half the race.

From there, the winner simply pressed the accelerator. She took control effortlessly and shut the door on her rivals, widening her margin without ever being fully extended. At the wire, she held a commanding four-length advantage over Madame Bic (Puerto Escondido), with Enjoy Dancing (Hi Happy) checking in third another 2 1/2 lengths back.

A neck behind came the surprise favorite La Asturiana Blue (Le Blues), while 3-year-old Envidiada (Il Campione) finished only eighth, beaten a distant 11 lengths. Final time for the 1000 meters was a sharp :57.21.

Bred by Haras La Fortaleza and campaigning for Stud El Káiser, Lissette Island is out of Channel Sale (Not For Sale), who has already produced three other winners.

With this latest triumph, Lissette Island now owns five wins from 10 starts, including two stakes victories, having previously captured La Plata’s Clásico Caballerizas Argentinas. Her career earnings now stand at $35,080,000.
