In a perfect moment, the daughter of Lizard Island prevailed this Monday in the Clásico España (L), comfortably defeating Free Prize

The wonderful moment of Lissette Island found continuity this Monday on the Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo dirt, consolidating herself as the number one sprinter in the country at present. The Cordovan-bred mare won the Clásico España (L-1000 m, normal sand) with great force, and it gives the impression that, as long as she continues running this way, dethroning her will be quite complicated.
It mattered little that Tormenta China (Malenchini) pushed her during a good part of the trip, because, when the time came, the daughter of Lizard Island kicked on as if she had just started, settling the matter from the 300-meter mark onwards.
Despite coming through blistering fractions of 22s35/100 and 43s97/100, Lissette Island engaged the turbo to draw away at the wire by 2 1/2 lengths over the consistent Free Prize (Winning Prize), with Enjoy Dancing (Hi Happy) in third another 4 lengths back, stopping the clock in 55s90/100, dipping under 12s for the final two furlongs.
On another level, that of the disappointments, La Meninha (Le Blues) was only fifth and Tormenta China felt the effort so much that she finished last, 12 1/2 lengths back, seemingly asking for a rest or a lowering of expectations.
Bred by Haras La Fortaleza, the winner represents Stud El Káiser and was presented by Germán Knuttsen, now totaling 4 stakes wins in her last 5 appearances, a streak that includes a second-place finish in the General Francisco B. Bosch (G3). In total, she has so far achieved 8 victories in 14 appearances, 5 of them at the stakes level, and is already close to reaching 70,000,000 pesos in prize money.
In the winner's reins, jockey Martín Valle shone once again, coming off a notable weekend, also at Palermo, winning the Gran Premio Jorge de Atucha (G1) and the Gran Premio de las Américas - OSAF (G1) with Gran Gotera (Made You Look) and Drive Joy (Fortify), respectively.
Lissette Island establishes herself as the number one in an always balanced and competitive category such as sprinting among mares, and as long as she does not let her guard down, it will take an enormous effort to take that spot away from her.
