The late withdrawals of Mi Negra Paula (Reflecting) and Kelly Rose (Il Campione) left the Especial Perrier (1,400m, normal dirt)—the most important race of Wednesday’s card at Hipódromo de San Isidro—without two of its primary contenders.

The one who best capitalized on the situation was Lost Beach, who relished the chance to add a stakes-level victory to her resume with total authority, carrying a middle weight of 56 kilos.

Once again, the trademark patience of jockey Gonzalo Borda paid dividends, in a week that has seen the rider take center stage. Aboard the daughter of Treasure Beach, he allowed Expert Advice (Il Campione, 56) and Princesa Candy (Señor Candy, 56) to duel and tire each other out up front, launched his bid midway through the lane, and swept past them to draw off effortlessly.

At the wire, she held a 6-length advantage over Princesa Candy, with Expert Advice finishing third, another 3 1/2 lengths back, and Celestial (In the Dark, 56) trailing the field 17 1/2 lengths behind the winner. The final time for the race was 1:23.11.

Acquired by Stud Rock del Campo during the Haras El Gusy dispersal, Lost Beach has now secured three wins under these colors, totaling five career victories and earnings of 24,689,500 pesos. Trained by Eduardo Perussia, Lost Beach did not let an ideal opportunity slip away and now looks forward to remaining a factor in this type of company.
