MADRID, España (Special for Turf Diario).- Next Thursday, July 3, the Hipódromo de La Zarzuela will host a vibrant, adrenaline-filled afternoon with the launch of the first edition of the Jockey Challenge, a brand-new tournament blending competition, spectacle, and camaraderie—poised to become a marquee event on the Madrid racing calendar.
Ten jockeys of diverse nationalities, backgrounds, and riding styles will go head-to-head across five specially designated races, each earning points based on their performance. At day’s end, the rider with the highest tally will be crowned champion. But beyond numbers and rankings, the day will be a celebration of skill in the saddle, healthy rivalry, and the international flair that gives these events their special magic.
The lineup reads like a global all-star team: Lucrecia Carabajal (Argentina), Jaime Gelabert (Spain), Per-Anders Graberg (Sweden), Carola Gucciardo (Italy), Vaclav Janacek (Czech Republic), Camilo Ospina (Colombia), Eduardo Pedroza (Panama), Jorge Ricardo (Brazil), Alberto Sanna (Italy), and Ricardo Sousa (Portugal).
Among the standout names, two deserve a special mention. Representing Argentina is Lucrecia Carabajal, the most successful female jockey in the country’s history. Known for her bold, polished riding style and unwavering focus, Carabajal brings a wealth of experience and determination to the competition. On the other side of the Atlantic, Madrid will also welcome a true global icon: Jorge Ricardo. The Brazilian legend, with over 13,000 career wins, holds the world record for victories by a jockey.
