Lunático Pass Adapted to the Heavy Track and Became a Stakes Winner in the Propietarios

In the absence of November Rain, the colt from Stud El Chorrito scored an all-the-way victory, joining the ranks of the top young sprinters

The absence of November Rain (Strategos) stripped the Clásico Propietarios (L—1,000 m, heavy turf) of its primary contender—an opportunity capitalized on to perfection by Lunático Pass, who, in his stakes debut, adapted seamlessly to demanding track conditions to score an all-the-way victory.

In the first of two feature events on Saturday's entertaining program at Hipódromo de San Isidro, where the majority of races were shifted to the dirt surface, the son of Distinctiv Passion took a significant step forward in his developing career, establishing himself as a young sprinter to watch.

Bred for Stud El Chorrito and trained by Eduardo Accossano, the dark bay broke sharply from the gates, albeit with some early drama. First, he crossed the path of Mister Market (Market Rally), before making heavy contact with Listen(Le Blues).

Once straightened out by jockey Iván Monasterolo, Lunático Pass began building a commanding performance, taking to the center of the expansive Jockey Club Argentino homestretch and leading all the way through brisk fractions of 22s74/100 and 46s91/100.

Crossing the wire in 1m26/100, he held a 1-length advantage over Mister Market, who closed late, while post-time favorite Listen tired in the closing stages to finish third, another 3/4 of a length back. A further 2 1/4 lengths behind, Nissos (Il Mercato) made little impact to complete the field.

Bred by Haras El Alfalfar, Lunático Pass is the first foal out of Luna Cautiva Key (Key Deputy), a winner in La Plataand a sibling to stakes winners Chalchalero Key (Key Deputy), De Simoca Key (Key Deputy), and Anochecido Song(Alcindor), as well as the dams of G3 winners Salteño Pass (Distinctiv Passion) and Lagoa Azul (Lenovo).

His maternal family is the most celebrated from Alfredo Camogli's nursery—the line of Sugary (World Cup)—which has produced countless stakes winners, including G1 champions Compasivo Cat (Easing Along), Gran Gotera (Made You Look), Llorón Cat (Easing Along), and the brilliant Tristeza Cat (Easing Along).
