Makhulu completed a perfect weekend for Tiz the Law in Chile

The colt scored a dominant victory in the Polla de Potrillos (G1) at Club Hípico de Santiago, capping off a top-tier treble for his sire, who also celebrated with Fully Subscribed at Saratoga

SANTIAGO DE CHILE, Chile (Special for Turf Diario).— The name Tiz the Law was etched in gold over the past weekend here. In just three days, the sire accounted for three G1 winners—an extraordinary production capped by the emphatic victory of Makhulu in the Clásico Polla de Potrillos - Roberto Allende Urrutia (G1-1,700 m, turf), held this Sunday at Club Hípico de Santiago.

The Stud Los Leones representative put on a dominant display. Ridden with supreme confidence by Alejandro Maureira, he rallied from off the pace, launched a powerful move entering the stretch, and, once in command, drew away with ease to cross the wire virtually in a hand-gallop.

Makhulu did not break particularly cleanly, settling in ninth through the opening 400 meters. Kept on a tight rein, he advanced to eighth passing the 800-meter mark, and as the field rounded the turn, he swung wide in sixth with plenty left in the tank.

Maureira waited until the final 300 meters to unleash his mount. The response was instant. Makhulu quickly ranged up to second, set his sights on the leader, and put the race to bed well before the 150-meter pole. From there it was smooth sailing, widening his advantage without being fully extended.

The son of Tiz the Law and Miscanti, by Scat Daddy, stopped the clock in 1:39.29 and left Nirzan (Lookin At Lucky) in second, while Berlinale, Dastan, and Neto Positivo—all by Tiz the Law as well—filled the remaining purse-earning spots. For the winner, this marked his third victory in five starts and his first at the top level, boosting his career bankroll to $32,315,000 Chilean pesos.

Trained by Ximeno Urenda and bred by Haras Paso Nevado, Makhulu was coming off a third-place finish in the Clásico Alberto Vial Infante (G1), right behind Dastan. While that effort was encouraging, he took a massive step forward today, reshaping his standing within the 3-year-old division.

The victory also shone a spotlight on Tiz the Law’s spectacular run of form. The Belmont Stakes (G1) and Travers Stakes (G1) hero capped a dream weekend with Makhulu, following G1 triumphs by Kerouac in the Polla de Potrancas (G1), Astromelia in the Mil Guineas (G1), and Fully Subscribed in the Personal Ensign Stakes (G1).

Also bred by Paso Nevado, Kerouac asserted her dominance by 2 3/4 lengths in the counterpart classic at Club Hípico. The filly, trained by Juan Silva G. for Stud Vendaval, picked up her third victory in four outings, emulating the classic wins achieved by her dam Kirikina (Verrazano) and granddam Kitcat (Scat Daddy) in the same event.

At Saratoga, Fully Subscribed carried the sire’s momentum to the United States with an even more emphatic performance. The Klaravich Stables colorbearer crushed Scottish Lassie (McKinzie) by 9 3/4 lengths, securing a "Win and You're In" berth into the upcoming Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) at Keeneland.

Tiz the Law generated a weekend performance hard to match anywhere in the world. His impact on Chilean breeding was already significant, but the sweeping victories of Kerouac, Astromelia, and Makhulu have elevated his stallion profile to another stratosphere.

The Polla de Potrillos belonged to Makhulu, but the weekend’s undisputed conqueror was Tiz the Law. From Santiago to Saratoga, his progeny laid down the law.
