Outsider Mario's Rim (Arg) (Remote {GB}) scored a bold and unexpected victory in the Clásico Adolfo P. y Aníbal Giovanetti (1200m, fast track), Wednesday’s feature at Hipódromo de San Isidro. Coming off a pair of underwhelming efforts, the colt from Stud Don Eloy stepped up against tougher company, capitalizing on a light 52.5kg impost and a smart ride by apprentice Wilfrido Torres Maldonado.

The son of Remote hugged the rail behind early leader Bambino Duke (Arg) (Lenovo), who opened up with sharp fractions of :22.45 and :45.38. Turning for home, the winner came through inside while the favored Sonreíme (Arg) (Orpen), carrying 54.5kg, loomed wide and momentarily struck the front.

Mario’s Rim was slow to unwind but found his best stride late, charging through in the final furlong to draw off by 1 1/2 lengths over the favorite. Billy Bob (Arg) (Idalino), another longshot carrying 52kg, rounded out the trifecta three lengths back. Final time was 1:09.11.

Bred by Haras Firmamento and trained by Héctor S. Rodríguez, Mario’s Rim now owns three wins from 16 starts. As a juvenile, he was second in the Clásico Guillermo Kemmis (G3) and third in the Clásico Carlos Pezoa, showing early promise.

Out of Maria’s Orpen (Orpen), a granddaughter of G2 winner Maria’s Halo (Southern Halo), Mario’s Rim hails from a productive family developed by the Sciacca family and later entrusted to Haras Firmamento.
