Maroñas: Grandinata Remains Unstoppable; Ababor Fever Springs Surprise in the Ensayo

Grandiinata Scores Comfortably Once Again.../ MAROÑAS

MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (Special for Turf Diario).- The Ensayo (G3-1500m, dirt) and Producción Nacional (G3-1500m, dirt) – traditional preps for the upcoming G3 Polla de Potrillos and Polla de Potrancas – were the highlights of Sunday’s card at Hipódromo Nacional de Maroñas, delivering strong signals for the road ahead.

In the Producción Nacional, Grandinata (Trinniberg) continued her flawless rise, leaving no doubts about her status as the top filly in Uruguay. Coming off victories in the Campeones Juvenile Fillies and G2 Gran Premio Criterium Potrancas, the filly from Haras Don Carlos and Stud Cabaña El Indio quickly took command after tracking pacesetter Namaste India (Drosselmeyer) early. Under Waldemar Maciel, she powered clear with ease around the turn and extended her lead in the straight to win by five lengths over Odyssey Princess (Put It Back) in 1:30.26 for trainer Sergio Dorneles.

Meanwhile, the Ensayo saw a surprising result as Ababor Fever (Texas Fever) capitalised on a flat performance from hot favourite Turbo Ship (Midshipman). While Turbo Ship failed to fire and faded to finish 5 1/2 lengths behind, Ababor Fever, trained by Ramón Peralta for Stud Tres Arboles, unleashed a powerful rally along the rail under Federico Píriz, collaring Donde Firmo (Midshipman) in the final strides to prevail by a head. The winning time of 1:29.30 was over a second faster than Grandinata’s mark earlier in the day.

With Grandinata now the firm favourite for the Polla de Potrancas, the Polla de Potrillos remains wide open, promising a thrilling start to the Uruguayan Triple Crown where, as Sunday confirmed, every hope has value.
