The son of Mastercraftsman, bred by Haras Firmamento and racing for Stud Jet Set, captured the Clásico Coronel Leoncio Prado
LIMA, Peru (Special for Turf Diario).— The Argentine-bred Master Leito once again proved he is in peak form by capturing the Clásico Coronel Leoncio Prado on Saturday, a traditional handicap open to all horses contested over 1,400 meters on the turf course at Hipódromo de Monterrico.
Carrying the colors of Stud Jet Set, the son of Mastercraftsman and Encantada Glory (Honour and Glory), bred at Haras Firmamento, launched a powerful late surge in the closing strides to win convincingly under jockey Húber Bocanegra, who once again teamed up seamlessly with the trainee of Juan Humberto Suárez.
Always held in check during the early stages, the chestnut bided his time, and when Bocanegra set him loose in the stretch, he responded with a devastating turn of foot to overhaul the pacemaker and hold off the late charge of Zuccaro(Singe the Turf), who finished second by half a length. Further back, Trudeau (Buenos Días) finished third, a length and a quarter behind, while Casciano (Donjuan), who had dictated the tempo from the start, completed the frame a further length and a quarter adrift.
The race set fractions of 23s89/100, 48s26/100, and 1m10s69/100, stopping the clock at a final time of 1m22s23/100 for the 1,400 meters.
For Master Leito, this marked his ninth victory in just 14 starts—a record that speaks volumes about his remarkable consistency and class. Furthermore, he boosted his career earnings to 42,070 soles, solidifying his status as one of the most reliable performers in the Peruvian racing circuit.
Bred in Argentina by Haras Firmamento, the 6-year-old continues to rack up international success for the domestic breeding industry, reaffirming the high regard in which he has been held since his earliest outings while remaining fiercely competitive on one of South America's most demanding stages.
