The Stud Pauli filly edged Temper Bomb by half a length, maintaining her undefeated record at the eucalyptus track
LA PLATA.— Redemption arrived swiftly for the team of Stud Pauli, trainer Marcelo Sueldo, and jockey Gonzalo Borda on Tuesday at the Bosque track. After suffering the—unjust—demotion of Escape Room (Il Campione) in the Especial Libreo (1,600 m, dirt), Mayan Goddess replaced frustration with jubilation by capturing the Clásico Raúl Lottero (L-1,200 m, fast dirt), the marquee event of the card.
Sent off as the heavy favorite at 1.10, the daughter of the proven sire Made You Look delivered as expected, though the victory was far from simple. On the contrary, the dark bay had to dig deep and rely on her class to turn back a determined challenge from Temper Bomb (Hit It a Bomb), who gave everything to make things difficult.
Tracking from a comfortable position while the latter set the pace, Mayan Goddess crept closer around the turn to hit the home stretch wide and with clear sailing. For a moment, it appeared she might come up short; however, from the 200-meter mark to the wire, she closed the gap and struck the front while Temper Bomb drifted outward.
At the finish, half a length separated the two, with Crazy Train (Remote) finishing third, another 5 lengths back. Following by a similar margin, Ojitos Tristes (Mootasadir) finished fourth, while the maiden Grand Doha (Il Mercato) finished last—a logical distant fifth, 14 lengths behind, taking home 784,000 pesos for doing little to nothing. Ossira Win(Gershwin) was scratched.
Bred by Haras Gran Muñeca, Mayan Goddess stopped the clock in a sharp 1:11.51 to secure her third victory in five starts, marking her stakes debut and maintaining her undefeated record at the La Plata oval.
The filly is out of Merello Rye (Catcher In the Rye), a half-sister to the brilliant Zenda Bohemia (Remote), from the deep foundation family of Mucura (Hot Dust)—a line that has produced countless formidable runners in recent decades, primarily through branches developed by Haras Firmamento and Haras Vacación.
