Mi Confesión faces her most demanding test in the United States in the Tranquility Lake

The daughter of Suggestive Boy returns to the dirt and makes her North American stakes debut against nine formidable rivals this Saturday at Del Mar

DEL MAR, California (Special for Turf Diario).— After displaying plenty of ability in her initial North American appearances, Argentine-bred Mi Confesión faces the most significant test of her U.S. campaign this Saturday when she lines up as one of ten competitors in the Tranquility Lake Stakes (L), a $100,000 contest over one mile on Del Mar's main track.

Trained by Michael McCarthy for Repole Stable, the daughter of Suggestive Boy breaks from post 3 and will be ridden for the first time by Italian jockey Umberto Rispoli. Quoted at 8-1 on the morning line, she confronts a pivotal test that will chart her future path, marking not only her domestic stakes debut but also her return to the dirt after making all her prior Northern Hemisphere starts on turf.

Mi Confesión made a positive impression upon arriving in California. Following a debut where she finished seventh while enduring traffic trouble and appearing in need of the race, she underwent an immediate transformation at Santa Anita Park. Taking command early, setting strong fractions, and turning back a fierce challenge from Take Another Card (I'll Have Another), she won by 1 3/4 lengths in a sparkling 1:34.96 for the mile.

She delivered another strong effort in her next start over the Santa Anita turf mile, once again setting the pace and managing her speed through most of the trip before being caught in the final stages by Baltic Fire (Flameaway), who bested her by 1 1/4 lengths. At Del Mar, however, she failed to replicate that form, finishing eighth in an allowance condition over 1,700 meters. She now seeks redemption as she turns back to the distance where she delivered her finest outings.

Her Argentine form provides ample evidence that the surface change should present no obstacle. Trained by Juan Franco Saldivia for Adolfo Cambiaso's Stud La Dolfina, she captured the Clásico Bayakoa (L) on the San Isidroturf, but also finished second to Forti Leaf (Fortify) in the Clásico Manuel J. Güiraldes (G3) and third behind Moon Frank (Gidu) and Charm (Strategos) in the Gran Premio Polla de Potrancas (G1)—both contested over the Palermo dirt.

Bred by Haras Juan Antonio, Mi Confesión is out of Galicia Gold, an Asiatic Boy mare who is a full sister to champion Galicado (Asiatic Boy) and a half-sister to G1 winner Got Talent (Easing Along). Her overall slate stands at four wins, six seconds, and two thirds from fourteen starts, numbers that underscore the consistency that has defined her career from the beginning.

The test in the Tranquility Lake will be formidable. Howin figures as the favorite, returning off an 11-month layoff for Bob Baffert backed by a sharp 58.40 five-furlong breeze. The daughter of Gun Runner has already won over the Del Mar mile and enters off a third-place effort in the Zenyatta Stakes (G2).

Richard Mandella, meanwhile, sends out a highly compelling entry. Magnificat (Omaha Beach), recent runner-up to Sweet Azteca (Sharp Azteca) in the Great Lady M Stakes (G2), tackles two turns for the first time, while Amorita(Liam's Map) moves from turf to dirt following a victory in the Daisycutter Stakes (L). So There She Was(Munnings), winner of the Remington Park Oaks (L), and Lavender Love (Grazen), a mare with sharp early speed, round out the main contenders.

The Tranquility Lake Stakes is scheduled as the eighth race on the card, with post time set for 5:03 p.m. local time (9:03 p.m. in Argentina). For Mi Confesión, it represents far more than another outing: it offers the opportunity to prove her North American stakes credentials and open new avenues for the remainder of the season.
