LA PLATA.- Another Zensational homebred from Haras Vikeda made headlines at La Plata. Just weeks after Vampiro Zen captured the Clásico Forli, it was now Mimosa Grey who stepped up to claim Thursday’s feature, the Clásico Vit Reina (1000m, dirt).

Racing for Stud Doña Dorita, the filly led a 1-2 finish for trainer Martín Domingo, scoring by 3 lengths over La Farce(Emmanuel), while heavy favorite Infancia Feliz (Angiolo) could only manage a dead-heat for fifth, beaten 7 lengths.

With Elías D. Martínez aboard, the gray filly took full advantage of the hot early pace set by maiden Texana Rye(Nashville Texan), who opened a clear lead with splits of :24.21 and :48.11 for the first 800 meters. However, she faltered at the 150-meter pole, allowing Mimosa Grey to surge past down the center of the track and draw clear. La Farce also closed from off the pace to claim second, finishing 2 lengths in front of the tiring early leader. Final time was 1:00.13.

Coming off her maiden victory just 20 days ago in her fourth start, Mimosa Grey showed notable progress here, although it should be noted that the Vit Reina essentially shaped up like a conditions race with black-type status.

She is the ninth foal out of Miss May (Seeker’s Reward), who had previously produced winners Marlboro Boy(Greenspring) and Tecopa (Greenspring). Miss May is a half-sister to stakes winner Fabiano (Fatly), stakes-placed Milan Stripe (Candy Stripes) and Lizzie (Louvre), and to Mill Stream (Fitzcarraldo), dam of G1 winner Wild Stream(Boboman) and granddam of fellow G1 scorer Equal Miller (Equal Stripes). Another half-sister, Miss Juventus(Southern Halo), is the granddam of G2 winner Miss Eder (Equal Stripes).

Mimosa Grey continues to progress among southern sprinters, adding a stakes win to her résumé, and now looks set for an interesting campaign where tougher rivals will test her true ability.
