The Carampangue mare defeated Filippiada in the Handicap Juan A. Maldotti

The turf course at Hipódromo de Palermo truly feels like home for Moon’s Destiny (56 1/2kg). The Carampanguemare secured her fifth victory from just seven starts over the surface this Sunday when capturing the Handicap Juan Alberto Maldotti (1400m), the tribute race honoring the unforgettable trainer.
Coming off a fifth-place finish in the Clásico Asociación de Propietarios de Caballos de Carrera (G3), the daughter of Orpen proved impossible to contain once she launched her move early in the stretch after tracking pacesetter Furiosa Vis (Furious Key) in third.
Once she took command, she built an insurmountable advantage and quickly dashed the hopes of every closer.
The one who came nearest was Filippiada (Il Mercato, 57), who finished second by three-quarters of a length. The exact same margin had separated them in the Clásico Farnesio, though on this occasion the weight conditions clearly favored the winner. Another three-quarters of a length behind—and after suffering some trouble both early and again in the stretch—Splash Park (Safety Check, 53) completed the trifecta in a final time of 1:24.12.
The post-race presentation carried a deeply emotional atmosphere, with Juan Carlos Maldotti, son of Juan Alberto, taking center stage alongside his grandchildren.
The Maldotti name remains one of the great dynasties in Argentine racing, and in Juan Sebastián Maldotti the family clearly has a worthy heir.
These are the kinds of tributes the entire industry applauds standing up.
