With no graded stakes on the card, Saturday's meeting at Hipódromo de San Isidro finds its feature attraction in the Handicap Saint Simon, a wide-open contest where picking a winner requires sifting through plenty of question marks. Run over 1,400 meters on the dirt track, eight mares aged 4 and up will clash in an even lineup, where past performances and conditions leave virtually every contender with a legitimate claim on victory.
The top selection goes to Moon's Filly, who benefits from a very manageable assignment of 53 1/2 kilos. The daughter of Forge, defending the colors of Stud Las Monjitas, comes off two solid place finishes in allowance company with the strong impression that her true potential outstrips her recent form lines. In her most recent outing, she finished third, 3 1/2 lengths behind Pawnee Drive (Lucullan), and now gets a turn back in distance that should play directly to her strengths.
Cutting back from a mile to 1,400 meters appears to be an ideal adjustment to help her find a more comfortable stride. Much of her chance will also hinge on how the race unfolds: if she can command the pace comfortably without over-exerting herself early and conserving her strength, rivals will have to run hard to catch her. Between the featherweight and a distance tailor-made for her style, she earns the top vote.
Naturally, that ideal scenario is far from guaranteed. Hidden Vision (Puerto Escondido), set to carry 55 kilos, also does her best work on the lead and could contest the early tempo from the jump. She arrives off a fourth-place effort in the Handicap Roy, a key piece of form that will be heavily represented here, as all three chasers who finished behind Vieja Amiga Mask (Mask) on that occasion return today.
The closest of those was Love Sound (Long Island Sound), who finished second by just a half-neck and now carries 56 kilos. That narrow margin gives her a major credential in a field devoid of standout dominant forces. If she replicates that effort, she will have plenty to say in the outcome, particularly if the early speed duel takes its toll on the frontrunners.
Finishing third in the Handicap Roy just ahead of Hidden Vision, Frapé (Vástago Salvaje) brings wealth of experience and a track record littered with solid placings in the division. A former winner of the Handicap Borobetá at Palermo, she gets in with 55 1/2 kilos and represents another serious contender. She knows the division inside out and arrives off a performance that confirms she remains at peak sharpness.
Carrying 55 1/2 kilos as well is Caty's Queen (Lizard Island), whose current form has yet to reach the high-water mark she set during 2025. That season, she captured the Clásico Marina Lezcano and posted second-place finishes in both the Clásico Bayakoa (L) and Clásico Empiric, credentials that demand respect. She has two starts under her belt this year, and the expectation is to see if that race fitness allows her to regain a measure of her best form.
Phila Street (Endorsement, 57), for her part, chained together back-to-back victories at Palermo before shipping to La Plata, where she finished fourth to Let Me Dance (Le Blues) in the Especial Jockey Club de Mar del Plata. It was a solid effort that keeps her firmly among the main choices in a wide-open affair.
A notch below appear Indomable (Hi Happy, 54), fourth in the Handicap Wally, and Liturgia Latina (Seek Again, 54), who returns from a 182-day layoff after ending her previous campaign with a third behind Todavía Cantamos(Mootasadir). Both will look to capitalize on the general parity of the lineup.
Moon's Filly holds the advantage on the scales and gets the vote of confidence. To convert that into a victory, she will have to navigate a race where threats will be closing in from every angle.
