Mutasaabeq Sires His First Winner in the United States

The stallion standing at Haras La Pasión, in partnership with Haras La Nora and other breeders, made a winning mark with Johnny G at Delaware Park

STANTON, Delaware (Special for Turf Diario).- Stallion Mutasaabeq began writing his career in the breeding shed with a long-awaited piece of news: Johnny G became on Tuesday the first winner from his debut crop in the United States by imposing himself with total authority at Delaware Park.

Bred in Florida by John Guarnere, the gelding secured the victory in just his second start, leading wire-to-wire over 1000 meters and crossing the finish line 3 1/4 lengths ahead, recording a time of 59s54/100.

Now racing in the colors of Imaginary Stables and under the care of trainer Andrew Simoff, Johnny G confirmed high promise following a encouraging debut, delivering an ideal freshman launch for Mutasaabeq.

The winner's dam is Codrington, a winning daughter of Courageous Cat who sees Johnny G as her first starter. In turn, Codrington descends from stakes-placed Notacharlie'sangel, a daughter of Fappie's Notebook who produced five other winners, including New York stakes-placed Barrage.

A son of the extraordinary Into Mischief, Mutasaabeq was purchased by Shadwell Estate for $425,000 at the 2018 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. Trained by Todd Pletcher, he displayed his finest form as a 2-year-old, a season in which he captured the Bourbon Stakes (G2) on the turf at Keeneland and finished third in the Hopeful Stakes (G1) at Saratoga.

At age 3, he managed just a single outing, though he made it count by taking the Mucho Macho Man Stakes (L) at Gulfstream Park before various setbacks curtailed his racing career.

As a sire, he entered stud duty during the 2023/24 season at Pleasant Acres Stallions in Ocala, Florida. He was subsequently acquired to stand at Haras La Pasión in Argentina, where he is currently covering his second Southern Hemisphere book in partnership with Haras La Nora and a syndicate of local breeders.

A sire's first winner always represents a major symbolic milestone, and for Mutasaabeq, it doubles as welcome news for Argentine breeding—where his first crop hits the track late this year—boasting a stallion with Shadwell lineage, an outstanding pedigree, and now his first official winner in the Northern Hemisphere.
