The talented son of Treasure Beach outfinished Hit Colchonero to secure a thrilling victory, triggering a highly unexpected result in the shadow of the wire over the turf course at San Isidro Racecourse

The Gran Premio Estrellas Classic (G1) over 2,000 meters on the turf always seems to have a golden chapter reserved for racing’s most compelling narratives, and the 2026 renewal proved to be no exception. On a marquee afternoon that captivated the entire South American turf industry, the centerpiece event of the Fundación Equina Argentina series delivered a finish as thrilling as it was unexpected, crowning a stunning upset victory for Neat Colt (Treasure Beach)—a sophomore who had previously failed to break through against elite company but unleashed an extraordinary reservoir of potential on the biggest afternoon of his career to capture ultimate glory.

The victory for the Santiago del Estero-based powerhouse Caballeriza Tramo 20 carried immense emotional and professional weight for his connections. For jockey Juan Cruz Villagra, the triumph represented a profound personal and professional vindication, marking his return to the absolute pinnacle of the sport in the finest manner imaginable after serving a suspension stemming from a past altercation with racetrack security personnel. Delivering a pinpoint, tactically flawless ride with remarkable composure under immense pressure, Villagra gave a masterclass to show he remains among the absolute elite of the Argentine riding colony.

The victory also validated the unwavering intuition of trainer Gustavo Romero. The Santa Fe native never lost faith in Neat Colt’s raw talent, maintaining a steadfast confidence that was richly rewarded at the wire this Saturday. With this victory, the conditioner did not just add a platinum trophy to his personal mantle; he seamlessly continued an indelible family legacy in Argentine turf history, following in the historic footsteps of his father, the legendary Ernesto Romero, who famously captured the Estrellas Classic on three occasions with iconic champions Mr. Mat (Numerous) in 2001,Lingote de Oro (Orpen) in 2010, and Star Runner (Southern Halo) in 2011.

The race itself was a grueling, highly contested affair from the opening gates, with Vundu (Suggestive Boy) dictating a demanding tempo while closely stalked by Hit Colchonero (Hit It a Bomb).

As the field swung into the long San Isidro straightaway, Hit Colchonero poked his head in front and looked poised to draw away for victory. However, Villagra asked Neat Colt for his ultimate effort, and the progressive colt responded with a fierce, continuous rally, executing a powerful closing surge to comfortably defeat a incredibly game Hit Colchonero by three-quarters of a length at the wire. Piloted by Kevin Banegas, Hit Colchonero turned in a spectacular performance in his own right, nearly pulling off a massive surprise of his own at extreme longshot odds.

Two lengths further back, heavy post-time favorite Need You Tonight (Hat Ninja) completed the trifecta under William Pereyra. The reigning star turned in an honest but uncharacteristically flat effort, leaving himself with too much ground to make up from the back of the pack on a turf course that made closing a highly taxing endeavor throughout the festival.

Pacesetter Vundu faded to finish a respectable fourth, followed in order by Don Machete (Daddy Long Legs), Honest Boy (Heliostatic), Real Rim (Remote), The Gladiator's Hat (Hat Ninja), and Mister Coquette (Bodemeister) to complete the official order of finish. The final time for the ten furlongs was stopped in a sharp 2:03.59 over the winter grass.

The Estrellas Classic concluded with a beautifully unpredictable result, putting the final wrap on a spectacular championship series that delivered top-tier sporting drama and effortlessly exceeded the highest of expectations.
