Over a heavy La Plata track, the Puerto Escondido filly captured the Especial Independencia

LA PLATA.- The Especial Independencia (1500m), a race for debuting fillies at La Plata, has long served as a launchpad for future stars—Cita di Río (Equal Stripes), winner of the G1 Estrellas Distaff, being a recent standout. On Sunday, amid very heavy going, the latest edition of the distinctive event saw Nevada Top turn in a courageous effort to earn a maiden victory that hinted at bigger things to come.
By champion Puerto Escondido, Nevada Top allowed Gaucha Preciosa (Sea Dog) to set the early pace before taking command midway around the turn. Once in front, she resolutely turned back the closing bid of Good Cana (Safety Check), who settled for second, 1 length behind, while Lupe Candy (Señor Candy) was a further 3 lengths back in third. The final time of 1:36.22 spoke to the testing nature of the track.
Bred by Miguel O. and Miguel A. Cardozo, and trained by the latter for Las Cuatro M., the Río Cuarto-based operation, Nevada Top was ridden by Daniel E. Arias, a jockey whose profile continues to rise on the local circuit.
Out of Nevada Stripes (Equal Stripes), who was unplaced in her lone start, Nevada Top is a half-sister to Look Portal(Portal del Alto), a notable stayer and stakes winner of the Clásico Calidoscopio (L), the Uruguay, and the Handicap Arturo A.
A promising first step for Nevada Top, who could now be pointed to the G2 Clásico Miguel Luis Morales, the next local prep toward the second-semester G2 Polla de Potrancas.
