The filly led a 1-2 finish for Santa María de Araras in the Grande Prêmio Henrique Possolo (G1), while the colt triumphed in the Grande Prêmio Estado do Rio de Janeiro (G1), both over a mile

RÍO DE JANEIRO, Brasil (Special para Turf Diario).- The Hipódromo da Gávea witnessed the start of the Carioca Triple Crown this Sunday, both for fillies and colts. New Dance stood out by winning the Grande Prêmio Henrique Possolo (G1) – Araras Blood & Power, while Nagayamatook the Grande Prêmio Estado do Rio de Janeiro (G1) – Araras Blood & Power, with both races contested over a mile of turf.
The Possolo saw an absolute dominance by the fillies from Santa María de Araras, as New Dance triumphed by 2 1/4 lengths over her stablemate Natassja Kinski, in a formidable 1-2 for stallion Put It Back, while Gevrey-Chambertain(Drosselmeyer) finished third, 2 1/2 lengths further behind, all after a time of 1m33s92/100.
Bruno Queiroz was aboard the winner, who is trained by Christiano Oliveira and is out of Square Dance (Wild Event), a former runner-up in the Grande Prêmios Barão de Piracicaba (G1) and Diana (G1). The mare had previously produced Glen Miller (by Put It Back), a G3 placed horse, and the two-time G3 winner Beach Dance (Northern Afleet), who in turn is the dam of the classic Lizarra (Alpha).
As for the colts, it was all about Nagayama (Setembro Chove and Fatal Attraction, by Roderic O'Connor), bred by Haras Santa Rita da Serra, racing for Stud CRDM/Sao José dos Bastões. With Dylan Machado in the saddle, the colt trained by Leonardo José Reis prevailed by 1 length over MC Arrocha (Arrocha), with Navy of War (Hofburg) coming in third, 1 1/2 lengths further behind. His time for the mile was 1m32s80/100, 1s12/100 faster than the time posted by New Dance just moments earlier.
The day also featured the Grande Prêmios Hipódromo da Gávea (G3 – 1000m, turf) and Escorial (G3 – 2000m, turf), with Eletrizante Dollar (Billion Dollar and Xuxa Blade, by Blade Prospector) and Online (Agnes Gold and Quebra-de-Braco, by Wild Event) claiming victories in their respective races.
