Nilahué Tops Pozo de Luna Yearlings Sale

A son of Fortify out of Nasa Oro topped off a productive Friday evening for Haras Pozo de Luna, selling for US$50,000 to Chilean buyer Arturo Cousiño, who continues to strengthen his string with proven local bloodlines

Owners often turn to familiar formulas in their quest for future success, whether it's acquiring a sibling to a past standout or returning to a farm where the chemistry has already delivered. That was precisely the path Chilean owner Arturo Cousiño followed in the 2023 Gran Venta de Productos from Haras Pozo de Luna.

Cousiño enjoyed one of his greatest racing triumphs in 2024 when Acento Final (Treasure Beach)—purchased from the Argentine operation of José Cerrillo—captured the G1 Gran Premio Jockey Club. So, it came as no surprise when he returned to the same well this year, securing two of the top three prices in the online-only sale, organized by (Arg) Sales.

The sale topper was Nilahué, a dark bay colt by Fortify out of Nasa Oro (Orpen), for whom Cousiño went to US$50,000. The dam is a half-sister to G3 winner Joy Nima (Fortify), both daughters of G1 winner Stormy Ninguna(Bernstein), a genetic match to the highly successful producers Stormy Nimble and Stormy Niña—a family synonymous with class and consistency.

Cousiño also signed for the third-highest priced lot, San Gregorio, a full brother to the stakes-winning Sin Temor by Suggestive Boy out of G1 winner She's Happy (Speightstown), going to US$45,000.

Slotting between them was Buin, a chestnut colt by Daddy Long Legs out of Biaxiqui (Easing Along), hammered down to Pablo Gómez for US$46,000. Buin is a maternal half-brother to G2 winner Boecio (Suggestive Boy) and descends from the potent female line of champions Flanders (Seeking the Gold) and Surfside (Seattle Slew).

The sale saw 17 yearlings change hands for a gross of US$416,200, yielding an average price of US$23,122 and a median of US$20,312.50—a solid indicator of continued confidence in one of Argentina’s most respected breeding operations.
