The Haras Carampangue mare, winless since November, got the better of frontrunner Elvitas in the turf mile

Noche Alta is not the easiest of mares; she has her quirks, making them known in the mornings and again in the afternoon when it’s time to carry the silks. Yet that fiery side—so typical of the Thoroughbred—doesn’t prevent her from displaying her ability with regularity, as she did Friday at Hipódromo de San Isidro, where she returned to the winner’s circle in the prestigious Clásico Sibila (G2-1600m, yielding turf).

Already a multiple graded winner, it was hard to believe that the daughter of champion Hi Happy hadn’t crossed the wire first since November of 2024—a stretch that included a brief freshening and, save for one exception, several strong efforts.

The drought ended here, as the Haras Carampangue homebred showed courage and determination to run down the brave frontrunner Elvitas (Cosmic Trigger), defeating her by two lengths, though not without some anxious moments along the way.

Turning for home, Noche Alta found herself right on the leader’s heels with Obra Clásica (Suggestive Boy) pressing on her outside, leaving the bay tightly pocketed. She tilted her head, searching for room, but once clear, she unfurled her stride and gradually wore down Elvitas.

Another two lengths back, Obra Clásica finished third, tasting defeat for the first time at a mile on turf, while the favored Fiesta Porteña (Fortify) failed to fire and checked in sixth of seven, beaten 7 1/2 lengths. Final time was 1:36.90.

Trained by Luciano Cerutti and expertly handled by Wilson Moreyra, the winner now boasts six victories from 21 starts, including four graded stakes triumphs, and earnings in excess of 67 million pesos.

Out of the highly productive Noche de Sueños (Orpen)—also dam of Nochero Querido (Most Improved)Nooresh (Suggestive Boy) and Nassau (Forge)Noche Alta may now be ready for a shot at the Gran Premio Copa Diamante (G1), which replaced the 2000 Guineas in 2024 but has since been dropped from the calendar.
