The prominent British trainer traveled to Dubai with one of the stars of his stable and wants to return home with a victory

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (Special for Turf Diario).— There are horses that arrive at Dubai World Cup Nightby form… and others that do so by design. Ombudsman clearly belongs to the second group.

John Gosden's pupil lands at Meydan with a preparation planned in detail for months, on a roadmap that had a clear objective from the start: to arrive at peak fitness for one of the most important nights in world horse racing.

"It has been the idea since last year," confirmed Gosden, recalling that the decision was made after his performances at York and Ascot, and following conversations with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum during the Tattersalls yearling sales in Newmarket in October.

The British trainer, who was a privileged witness to the evolution of the meeting since that victory of Cigar (Palace Music) in the first edition 30 years ago, now returns with an individual that inspires hope and who, according to those around him, arrives at just the right time.

In the preview, Ombudsman performed a soft work on the Tapeta track under the watchful eye of his trainer, within a conservative but effective training scheme.

"It is not easy to prepare a horse in winter. Conditions are not always ideal, and you also have to think about the rest of the season. That's why we decided to train him at home, with a specific outing to Chelmsford, and we are very satisfied with how he arrived," explained Gosden.

The horse's profile has also changed over time. At his age, he has not only gained in physique but also in maturity, though without losing that particular temperament that defines him.

"He is bigger, stronger, and improved with age. He became more professional, although he remains a restless horse, very curious. He likes to look at everything, to play… any excuse is good for him to get distracted," he described.

The challenge will not be minor for the son of the stupendous stallion Night of Thunder. But in Gosden's history in Dubai, there are names that support any hope: Dar Re Mi (Singspiel), Mishriff (Makfi), and the unforgettable Lord North (Dubawi), triple winner of the Dubai Turf (G1), are part of a list that sets the standard.

Now, it is Ombudsman's turn. A horse that did not arrive by chance, but as part of a carefully mapped-out plan. And at Meydan, he will seek to turn that planning… into a result.
