Back in his wheelhouse and on familiar ground, Atrevido Electric delivered a devastating performance in Thursday’s feature at Hipódromo de San Isidro, making a loud and clear statement in the Handicap Zanoni, contested over 1200 meters on the track’s auxiliary dirt course.

A specialist around a turn, the son of Electricity runs with a sort of frantic urgency when he’s right—setting a tempo that few can live with and refusing to yield in the lane when most would start to feel the strain. He’s not exactly the picture of consistency—one look at his past performances tells that tale—but on his day, he’s as sharp as they come.

With William Pereyra in the irons and toting a hefty highweight of 60.5 kilos, Atrevido Electric seized control early in the absence of the scratched Fantastic Woman (In the Dark) and never looked back. The imposing dark bay, tipping the scales at 548 kilos, blazed through brutal fractions of :22.19 and :44.95 before kicking away at the top of the lane with the ease of a horse just getting started. He coasted home in 1:09.34, a time that could’ve easily been sharper had he been asked, just like the four-length margin over Rosario-based Bartlemy (Full Mast, 58.5 kg) could’ve been even greater. Another half-neck back, Bajo El Cielo (True Cause, 52.5 kg) rounded out the trifecta at long odds.

Trained, bred, and owned by Ariel H. LusardiAtrevido Electric recorded the eighth win of his 22-race career, boosting his earnings to ARS 22,610,700. Four of those victories have come at the stakes level, including the Adolfo P. GiovanettiPablo Falero, and Handicap Potrillazo.

He didn’t start off with much promise, often finding himself rerouted to alternative company, but maturity has brought out his best. Off a return like this, Atrevido Electric looks poised to make some serious noise in one-turn stakes—right in his backyard.
