On the Road to the Dardo Rocha, a Can't-Miss Stakes Race Looms at La Plata

LA PLATA.- The road toward the Gran Premio Dardo Rocha (G1) will continue at this city's racetrack on Sunday, July 26, with a new renewal of the Clásico Federación Argentina de Jockey Clubes e Hipódromos scheduled over 2200 metros, for which entries were taken this Friday.

A tremendous spectacle is in the making based on the list of 13 potential runners, which features Sono Perfetto (Tetaze), Amuni (Tetaze), Nassau (Forge), El Darwin (Il Campione), and Don Champagne (Long Island Sound).

With a purse of 7,510,000 pesos awaiting at the wire—clearly a modest figure—the remaining entries include: Emblematicu (Lucullan), Faramond (Il Mercato), Hi Dolfi (Hi Happy), Lindo Benicio (Cityscape), Maccabim(Fortify), Notable Island (Lizard Island), Ruso Real (In the Dark), and Vitto Plus (Le Sortilege).

The local track will also host racing on Tuesday, July 28, when the feature event will be the Handicap Revista Palermo, contested over 1100 meters for 4-year-olds and up mares with 3 or more career wins.

A total of 16 potential contenders were nominated, with Calle de Tierra (Strategos) assigned the highweight of 61 kilos, one more than Qué Buena B (Qué Vida Buena). Bantia (John F. Kennedy, 55 1/2), Beauty Check (Safety Check, 56), Empress Life (Legión de Honor, 57), Excrutada (Bahiaro, 53), Filha (Nashville Texan, 57), Nina Ride (Señor Candy, 53 1/2), Sprintback (Nickelback, 55), Unica Roma (Unico Idolo, 51 1/2), Verdadera Pass (Distinctiv Passion), What a Glory (Safety Check, 54), Eterna Seattle (Seattle Fitz, 51 1/2), Furiosa Popular (Furious Key, 54 1/2), Maylena (Qué Vida Buena, 59), and Stormy Talentosa (Equal Talent, 52) complete the field.

Finally, on Friday, July 31, La Plata will feature the Especial Life for Sale (1000 m), open to 4-year-olds and up with a minimum of 3 victories. Among the 15 horses entered, Vespaciano (Daniel Boone) received the top weight of 64 kilos, while Magyar (Lenovo), Maylena, and Cántaros Song (Alcindor) were assigned 58 kilos.
