The mare from Stud El Chorrito took the Clasico Vit Reina without a hitch, over 1,200 meters on the auxiliary dirt track

After a year, Verenna returned to major victories. It happened this Wednesday on the auxiliary dirt track at Hipodromo de San Isidro, where she justified her favoritism with the best possible result to take the Clasico Vit Reina (1,200m), the featured race of a low-quality meeting that was further marred by technical issues affecting normal betting operations in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.

Carrying the top weight of 57 1/2 kg, the daughter of Cosmic Trigger, who was coming off a dull fifth-place finish, showed her best side by winning with great solidity against a field of just four rivals. With Ivan Monasterolo in the irons, the Stud El Chorrito defender broke, as usual, with the intention of being an early factor. On the outside, Soy Atorranta(Angiolo, 54 1/2 kg) snatched the lead for a few seconds before fading midway through the turn and eventually finishing last.

From there, Verenna regained the lead, steadily grew stronger, and covered the homestretch with complete authority to reach the wire with a 2-length advantage over Look Happy (Hi Happy), who rallied from the back to finish as the runner-up. Another 1 1/2 lengths back, the filly Starry Bomb (Hit It a Bomb) completed the trifecta, all in a reasonable time of 1:09.99 following fractions of :24.16 and :46.82.

Bred by Haras Juan Antonio, this was the fifth career win for Verenna in 11 starts and her second stakes victory, coming exactly 12 months after she won the Clasico Omnium (L) on the Jockey Club turf.

Eduardo Acossano continues to bring the bay back to form. She is out of Noche de Vega (Orpen) —already the dam of two other winners— a full sister to the very prolific Noche de Sueños, who at Carampangue produced G2 winners Nochero Querido (Most Improved) and Noche Alta (Hi Happy), G1-placed Nooresh (Suggestive Boy), and G2-placed Nassau (Forge).

Verenna returned to the winner's circle on another dull Wednesday at Hipodromo de San Isidro, confirming her recovery and raising expectations that she can remain a central protagonist in turn-sprint events.
