Orpen Again returned to the winner's circle over a classic mile, stopping the clock in an eye-catching time

The son of Orpen scored by half a length over Los Trenes in the Premio Intense for Me, stopping the clock in a blistering 1m34s60/100. Martín Valle completed a double; tight finishes highlighted victories by Te Re Adoro and Petite Bamb

Beyond what was offered by the Clásico Candy Ride (L), Wednesday's fixture at Hipódromo de San Isidro lacked significant depth in terms of quality. However, among the condition races, a few tight finishes emerged, along with strong individual performances and even a speed figure that commanded serious attention.
The fifth race, the Premio Intense for Me, brought together a useful group of milers and concluded with the return to victory for Orpen Again, who found his path to the wire through a late surge that was as effective as it was well-timed.
The son of Seek Again spent a large portion of the running at the tail of the field, pinned to the rail, keeping his composure while the pacesetters carried the action forward. He began to improve around the turn, chopped away at the lead upon entering the stretch, and, just as Los Trenes (Daddy Long Legs) seemed poised to claim top honors, launched a powerful drive in the closing meters.
In the final furlong, Orpen Again collared his rival and ultimately prevailed by half a length, settling a race in which the primary favorites were left out of the frame. Most striking was the teletimer: 1m34s60/100 for the 1600 meters over a heavy dirt track, a truly outstanding mark.
The contest also produced a moment of concern when Lago en el Cielo (Long Island Sound), carrying saddlecloth number 2, went down with apprentice jockey Mariano Rey. Fortunately, the rider emerged uninjured and was cleared to return to race riding starting Thursday, bringing relief after the incident.
Another entertaining finish unfolded in the Premio The Outsider, reserved for 4-year-old one-time winners in the alternative category, also contested over 1600 meters.
There, the shouts changed targets several times down the stretch, with numerous runners holding chances practically to the wire. Ultimately, it was Te Re Adoro (Remote) who managed to prevail by half a length over Tottenham(Treasure Beach), delivering a highly satisfactory comeback performance having been sidelined since May.
The winner, a homebred for Stud Firmamento, was guided by Martín Valle, who thus capped off a fine afternoon with a double. The jockey had already visited the winner's enclosure in the third race aboard Stock Rocket (Southern Cat), and celebrated once more with a horse that delivered maximum response following several months of inactivity.
There was similar drama in the Premio Yak Sport, run over 1600 meters for 4-year-old fillies with one win in the alternative class. There, Petite Bamb (Cityscape) and Máquina de Sangre (Cosmic Trigger) locked horns in an engrossing duel from the 400-meter pole to the wire, neither able to gain a decisive upper hand.
The favorite Máquina de Sangre made her defeat a costly one, but Petite Bamb dug deep enough to secure the win by just half a neck, in a finish that kept the outcome in doubt until the final stride.
Carrying the colors of Stud Don Yayo, the winner thus notched her second career victory, displaying a competitive spirit that ultimately proved decisive in tilting the scales in her favor.
All told, it was a modest meeting on paper, though the condition ranks delivered plenty of highlights worth keeping. The comeback victory of Orpen Again, accompanied by an eye-catching time, stood out as the defining moment of an afternoon where nail-biting finishes provided the lion's share of the drama.
