The Stud Los Apóstoles mare lived up to her heavy favoritism with a comfortable mile victory over Increpante

Jockey Martín Valle didn’t have to wait long for redemption at Palermo on Saturday. Barely half an hour after losing the G2 Ramón Biaus on the wire aboard Martana (Fortify), edged out by Cannolina (South Kissing), he turned disappointment into celebration, guiding Orpen Rimout to victory in the G2 Clásico Carlos Tomkinson, contested over a mile on the main track.
An overwhelming favorite—she returned just $1.10—the Stud Los Apóstoles filly finally earned her graded badge with a performance that was both dominant and decisive, outclassing her three rivals with authority.
Her prior fourth-place finish in the G3 Ricardo P. Sauze had been underwhelming, but this time the daughter of Remotedelivered precisely what was expected. As usual, she was involved from the break, this time setting the pace alongside Increpante (Sigfrid) through notably soft fractions.
Splits of :27.30 and :51.70 for the opening quarter and half-mile made it clear that closers would have no chance—and that’s exactly how it played out. Once they straightened, Orpen Rimout, racing on the outside, quickly asserted command and opened up, cruising home without ever being fully asked.
Increpante held second, 2 1/2 lengths behind, with another two back to Reina Casada (Long Island Sound). She in turn finished 3/4 of a length ahead of Primera Fila (Equal Stripes) in last. The final time of 1:37.97 was far from dazzling under the slow early pace.
Bred by Haras Firmamento and trained by Carlos D. Etchechoury, Orpen Rimout is out of the top-class Orpen Fain(Orpen), a multiple group winner who finished second in this very race in 2010 before excelling as a broodmare. She also produced stakes winner Seattle Fain (Seattle Fitz) and G3-placed Atlantic Fine (Stormy Atlantic), dam of G1-placed Forty Fain (Fortify). The family traces to outstanding sprinter La Quipa (Southern Halo) and her G1-winning son Asset(Salt Lake).
